A TIMELESS QUALITY,
This review is from: 9 1/2 Weeks: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I bought this album on cassette after viewing the movie for the very first time. Each song here seems to conjure up (in my mind) the mood of the scene in the film it was taken from. Needless to say, when I upgraded my system, this was one of the first CDs I purchased. An excellent collection of songs that thankfully bucked the trend of the time of stringing together hit singles of the day on a soundtrack which would ultimately date it to a certain era. I dare you to put it on today and tell me it doesn't have a timeless quality about it. It is a shame that Devo's version of "Bread And Butter" didn't make it onto the American cut of the movie though. The song itself isn't even listed as being on the soundtrack in the credits of the film (while the Nubeats are listed under additional music for their version of the song used in the feast scene). Just F.Y.I., the reggae tune everyone is looking for is "Savior" by Winston Grennan and is off of his Clean Slate (2000) CD. The Billie Holiday song is called "Strange Fruit" and is available on at least 7 different CDs with that as the album title. Now if only someone would release the entire movie soundtrack on CD I'd be in heaven. Where is Rhino when I need them?

When I first picked up this CD, I only wanted a couple of cuts but I had no idea the entire album would be so alluring! These songs were appropriately selected for the movie as well. If you close your eyes you can almost visualize Kim Basinger slow dancing to the beautiful "Slave to Love." The instrumental "Cannes" is a soft, fantastic voyage within the mind. There's lots of smooth pop dance here. Every time you listen to it, you'll crave for more!
