More About the Author

Mark is from upstate New York and did his formal undergraduate education at Colgate University. His years at Colgate University were focused on athletic endeavors such as competitive swimming, rowing and triathlon racing, interrupted by brief episodes of academic activity. After graduation from "the Gate" Mark started his professional career as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand in New York City. Clients included luminous and no-longer existent financial firms such as Solomon Brothers and Paine Webber.

Four painful years later, with an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in his briefcase, he left behind the suit to pursue his inner vision to become a Navy SEAL officer. He was 26 when he graduated as honor-man (#1 ranked trainee) of his SEAL BUD/s class 171. Mark was fortunate to serve with many great men and women on active duty for nine year and in the reserves for eleven...retiring at the rank of Commander in 2011.

After leaving active duty in 1997, Mark started his second business career as an entrepreneur. He co-founded the successful Coronado Brewing Company and launched NavySEALs.com in the year he left the active duty Navy. NavySEALs.com is the leading web site for gear and information about the SEALs. US Tactical was next, gaining contracts with Naval Special Warfare Group ONE for training support, and the Navy Recruiting Command for a nationwide mentoring program for SEAL, SWCC, EOD and Diver candidates.

Mark's business career was interrupted by a stint as an Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the University of San Diego, where he was pursuing his Doctorate in Leadership, then by a one year recall to active duty in 2004. The recall took him to Baghdad with SEAL Team One to conduct a special project for Naval Special Warfare Command surrounding the role of the USMC in Special Operations.
In 2007 he launched his CrossFit affiliate and the now internationally known SEALFIT program to provide transformational personal and team training experiences. The training utilizes an integrated warrior development model he developed, called Unbeatable Mind, which draws from his 20 years as a SEAL and business leader, 25 years as a martial artist and 15 years as yoga practitioner.

SEALFIT and Unbeatable Mind are uniquely effective at elevating clients to a higher level of operating, thinking and leading - encompassing the full spectrum of human experience - Body, Mind and Spirit in Self, Team and Organization.

Certifications, experience, honors:

* CPA, New York State
* BUD/s class 170 Honor man
* SEAL TEAM 3 Platoon CDR
* Commanding Officer, NR SEAL TEAM 1
* Commander, US Navy Reserves
* Colonel, Kentucky Order of Colonels

Jumping into this program taught me something really important: you cannot HIDE from the work required here. I've been doing more traditional weight lifting and strength programs at the gym over the last many months, and while the plans and programs have gone rather well for me, in just six days of working on this program I realized that I hadn't been giving it my all, and I'd been cutting corners. With 8 Weeks to SEALfit, if you stay committed to the work in front of you, you can't hide. And that's a great thing.

Commander Divine has done a great job of putting together a lot of great work here. The progressions are great and even if you're not a Crossfitter (which I'm definitely not), you get a sense of what he did to merge together traditional calisthenics, CrossFit, plus yoga and a few other disciplines to build a really smart and really challenging fitness program.

I love the additional stories and flavor that adds to the storyline of what people who appreciate the work of the US Navy SEALs would connect with, and I found myself reading those stories while sucking wind and trying to recover during the challenging (for me anyway) workouts.

Definitely not a "for beginners" book, but realize that if I can do it, you probably can, too. Give it a go. Coach Divine also augments this very well with his websites as well.

Absolutely a beautiful book. It tells you what you need to know, it makes it fast and has different approaches to each subject so that you can't miss the point. If you are familiar with this kind of physical/mental training it is a great guide, if you are not, STOP, click buy and have your life changed. Period.

Great book...I'm on week 2 and I've done all the workouts so far. I have gained a great deal of inspiration and deeper/harder workouts from this book. My pushups/pullups/air squats were atrocious before this and I can tell already that I've gotten much stronger. Love the variety and ease of tools. You can do most of them without any equipment. They use a rower a lot, so I just substitute running or jumping jacks for that.

I like how hard I have to work to complete this. I go home dripping wet with sweat and dead tired. I know this stuff is making me stronger.

I've been training with SEALFit for 3 years now. There is a reason for that. CDR Mark Divine knows what he is doing and this book is him sharing his knowledge. I highly recommend this book. I read the original version and I have just finished this newer version. I would tell anyone to buy it. It's worth it's weight in gold.

Logical and easy to understand way to get fit. I am integrating it with the Way of the Seal for an overall approach to getting healthy.

I've never been in the military, but it's always been a passion of mine. Mark Divine is the real deal! Divine was a Navy SEAL and he covers the mental, physical, and other aspects of being overall "healthy" in this book. From your diet, to what you should be doing to get into shape. It's just a really great book written by someone who knows what they're talking about. I coupled this book with his other book: "The Way of the SEAL"...which is also an absolutely amazing book! 8 Weeks to SEALFIT gives you what you need for a healthy body and mind. I could go on and on, but it's a great book! I have the paperback, and it's a big book! I leave it on my coffee table and it always sparks conversation. Great illustrations and it's easy to read.
