Fitness Guidance for All Seasons, January 8, 2007
This review is from: 8 Weeks to a Younger Body (Paperback)
Joan's programs are terrific! I have her first book, Strength Training for Women, which helped me figure out how to add weight training to my exercise routine. In her latest book, 8 Weeks to a Younger Body, Joan expands the topic to overall fitness - cardio and flexibility, in addition to endurance. She explains how each of us can develop a total workout regimen based on our fitness category. First, she shows you how to determine your body's functional age (not necessarily your last birthday number) and how your current fitness level compares to the norms for various age groups. The bulk of the book is comprised of beautiful color photos that demonstrate exercise plans for each fitness level (age) category. In this book, Joan shows how, by sticking with one of her masterfully-designed plans for just 8 weeks, each of us can revitalize our body and achieve an enhanced or even younger fitness level. Like before, her guidance in this book is first-rate. I also appreciate her practicality - focusing on doing workouts at home (no drives to the gym or sweating in front of strangers!) and keeping the investment in equipment and materials minimal, to save money and keep storage from becoming an issue. Great job, Joan...keep `em coming!

A real find for fitness, March 7, 2007
This review is from: 8 Weeks to a Younger Body (Paperback)
This book is amazing. Eight Weeks to a Younger Body does what it promises. I have more energy, feel stronger and look better. The age-group charts in this book are clear. The pictures really demonstrate what to do and the color is great. I'm a fan of Joan's book on strength training -- that worked for me, too. Now she adds cardio and stretching along with new strength training exercises. They're all easy to do at home and there's a program for every body age. She gives you some simple assessment tests and you can compare your scores with other women your age to see how you measure up. You choose the exercises that are right for you. I've already customized my own program for cardio, stretching and strengthening Did I tell you I'm in the "mature" category? Yes, over 50, but ready to Spring ahead, thanks to this wonderful, helpful book. Thank you Joan Pagano!

Turn Back the Body Clock, February 5, 2007
This review is from: 8 Weeks to a Younger Body (Paperback)
I recently turned 60, so I was curious how I'd rate in terms of my "body age." There are simple self-tests for cardio, strength, and flexibility fitness. I rated fine on cardio, so I'm working out with the 40-year-olds! In strength, I started with the early 50-somethings, and in flexibility, well, I'm staying with my own age group because I really need to stretch. This book is great because it shows you how to "turn back the clock," with a new set of exercises for each decade you shave off. It also has a weight/height chart, and I was pleased to see that I'm not too fat or too thin, contrary to what the ads keep telling us. The exercises are easy to do at home without having to purchase expensive new equipment, and the motivation is there, right in the book, to make progress toward that younger body of yours. Bravo, Joan Pagano!
