Wow! I love it. This is the book every woman (or man) who wants to take the leap into entrepreneurship should get. It lays out a sound process spanning a 16 week period that is very doable for just about anyone serious about starting their own business. AND, it stresses the importance of preparing a written business plan! The book has the following 16 chapters: 1. You and your big idea! >>Getting your dream in writing 2. Welcome to your world. >>Get to know your industry, and your competition 3. Bull's eye. >>Identifying your target market 4. Strategy to reality. >>Everything you need to create an action plan for success 5. Make some noise. >>How to communicate with your target market 6. Get some attention. >>Public relations 101 7. To be or not to be online, that is the question. >>What you need to know before building a Web site 8. Rules of engagement. >>The importance of networking, moving, and shaking 9. Start your engines. >>Budgeting for success from the beginning 10. A girl's gotta live. >>Taking a closer look at your personal finances before you leap 11. Lawyers and bookkeeping and accountants, Oh my! >>Setting up your business right from the start 12. Gotta plan? >>Get your business out of your head and onto paper 13. Make it, track it, keep it. >>Everything you need to know about keeping track of the green stuff 14. Raising dough. >>How to come up with the cash you need to launch your dreams 15. Manager makeover. >>Managing yourself and those around you 16. Making a difference makes the difference. >>Giving and serving for a better business and a better you This book took some time to put together. And it is full of sound advice and logic. It is well written and well organized. I cannot praise it enough. I recommend the reader also consider getting the following four books as companions to the instant one being reviewed: >>Real You Incorporated (ISBN: 9780470176580) >>Seven Step Business Plan (ISBN: 9781589804715) >>Successful Business Research (ISBN: 9780974080130) >>Self Employment: From Dream to Reality (ISBN: 9781563709227) And if you have any questions along the way, then don't forget to use the free face-to-face and email coaching provided by SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives), an arm of the US Small Business Administration. 6 stars!

I am familiar with the authors from their own business, [...], and have had the great pleasure of hearing Nada Jones speak in various settings over the years. She is so inspirational and motivational and I think she feels a true calling to share what she has learned to help other women succeed. This book is a treasure for anyone trying to start or grow a business - for anyone who is reluctant to pursue a dream because they don't have a business or legal background and feel overwhelmed by figuring out what you need to know, this book is for you. The steps are laid out in a planner-type format in a way that is both practical and easy to understand. Also, the profiles of different women who have started a variety of different types of businesses are inspiring and empowering - you read about these women and really do feel like "I could do this, too". Finally, I would say that the "Just For Moms" tips that appear throughout the book are a really important resource for women because being a mom is often one more challenge that may inhibit women from pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams and these tips for finding a way to balance both are invaluable! Great, great book. Happy reading and good luck in the entrepreneurial endeavors you will be inspired to achieve after reading it!!

Inspirational and Practical,

This book takes the reader from business idea to business-in-motion. So many of the "how to start a business books" are long on inspiration, but short on practicality. Not this one. 16 weeks gives you real-life examples of women who have made it in business and shows you how you can join their ranks in just four short months. Covering a broad range of topics from how to create a profit and loss statement, to how to network, Briody and Jones give you the tools to make your business dream a reality. I only wish I had this book when I was setting up shop.

A "must-have" for entrepreneurs wanting to launch their new business!,

I was so inspired by this book! To be honest, launching a new business has never been a personal dream of mine, but I found this book to be inspiring and encouraging much in the same way I find Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way, to be helpful. Its spiral-bound "planner-format" is very user-friendly and walks you through several brain-storming exercises that are unlike any other books I have seen in this genre. There are also lots of helpful tips regarding creating an online presence that would apply to all sorts of creative endeavors. I highly recommend this book and will be giving it to several women as holiday gifts this year!

I want to start my own business, but I needed some guidance as to how to get my ducks in a row, so to speak. This book has really, really helped me along in doing that. I'm finding more of a structred path these days than before.
The only thing I would like to note that I didn't find helpful was that the pages in the book are not big enough for all of the research and the exercises you need to complete. You just need to get a separate notebook or keep pages in the pockets provided in the book. I liked the separate notebook angle, personally.

This book is chock full of well thought out advice on starting a business. With an aggressive 16 weeks, the authors have thought of everything you need. After over thirty years of consulting with cottage business owners and start up wanna-be's, this book is worth every penny and more! However, the pink worksheets did bother me. There are very useful inserts just for Mom's who want to start a business. Highly recommended.

I wish I had something like this to develope my own business.
