Many people don't know of Thomas Weelkes, much less of his church music. This music is really good---considered "modern" for his time, Weelkes was a drunk and that shows sometimes in his music. But he was also a musical genius---on this recording you hear just about all of his still existing religious works. These works are performed with great energy by Winchester Cathedral Choir, directed by David Hill. This CD is essential first because of the great composer represented on it and secondly because of the performances.
