I just don't see the sixty-odd bucks in these pieces of plastic, but there aren't many choices if you really need nav tools. They are heftier than the Davis product that is the other easy to find competitor and priced a little less.

The 12 inch parallel rule is too short to be useful on most charts, so you'll always be fidgeting with the triangles to extend lines and hoping you kept them straight. I went out an bought a separate 15 inch parallel rule before my USCG plotting test, since you're only allowed a 1 degree error.

That all said, I use it at home with the paper charts for trip planning and keep it stowed on the boat. Hopefully, I'll never have to use either it or a paper chart to actually navigate, I have redundant GPS, but I know how and it's there if I need it.
