Strongly recommended,
This review is from: Weems & Plath Marine Navigation Ultralight Divider (Sports)
These dividers are extremely accurate and very well made. The thumb wheel makes for very easy one-hand operation, and they can be quickly made into a compass as well. Their construction allows them to hold the measured distance very accurately and for a nearly indefinite period. Over the past 10 years or so, I have used almost every brand and type of dividers available (even the specialty ones), and these are by far the best. Try these out and I'm sure, that like me, you will never use anything else.

The dividers that came with my captain's course were too inaccurate for proper plotting. So I opted for this pair, and they helped me score 100% on my charting, plotting and navigation exams! Very critical when you're out at sea with only a chart, sextant and no working GPS! Price at Amazon was better than any other stores.

Pretty good,

The vessel I'm currently assigned to has 2 pairs of these in their navigation tool chest, and they seem pretty ubiquitous elsewhere as well as I've encountered them on multiple vessels before. All in all, they are a good solid divider, well made, and have the advantage of holding their position for precise plots. Personally though, I find them uncomfortable to hold and the extra tension caused by the wheel mechanism requires more force to adjust which over time becomes a nuisance. For open ocean, 1 plot/hr, these are fine; to sit down for an hour or two and use them to plow through a pile of chart corrections, not so much. I much prefer the W&P Millenniums, but these will do the job just fine if you're truly concerned about the dividers moving while positioning them.

Another Well Designed Weems Item,

I have nothing but praise for this item. Designed and manufactured to near-NASA quality control specs. Includes multiple tips and textured surfaces that allow you to keep a good grip. Very easy single handed operation using the wheel mechanism. Sturdy and super functional. This item has been helping me estimate distances and aiding me in making hourly course adjustments for current in the cockpit of my tiny sailboat for years with almost no sign of wear. Holding it at arms length and turning the caliper one full rotation ( you will have to mark it with a paint pen) will also help you estimate degrees of altitude in a pinch within .5 degrees. Holds its settings unlike the opposing pinch calipers that nostalgics tend to worship. Were these to go over the side, I would likely sob a bit and then replace them with the exact model ASAP.
