2.0 out of 5 stars 'Tis Okay, Typical Mary Higgins Clark Script
Weep No More My Lady follows the Clark formula for her stories. The suspense and guessing part is to find out who amongst the people surrounding the principal players is the killer. Clark was okay, but is now beginning to be a "read one, read all" type.

Leila's lover, celebrity financier Ted Winters, has been accused of Leila's murder and is awaiting trial.Unbeknown to Elizabeth, Ted has also been invited to the spa, along with his aide and a lawyer who is helping to prepare him for the trial. It soon becomes clear that quite a few of the people at the spa had reason to hate Leila who had antagonised many on her way to the top.Elizabeth is to be the prosecutions chief witness as she heard Leila's voice on the phone, pleading with Ted not to hurt her.It soon becomes obvious that someone is determined to kill Elizabeth and the plot thickens! I found this to be a good, quick, exciting read and not too much of a brain strain.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Mystery/Suspense Novel, December 14, 2004
A Kid's Review
The novel Weep No More, My Lady by Mary Higgins Clark is a fantastic book fraught with suspense and mystery. As I began to read this book, I became enthralled in it. The book was centered around Elizabeth Lange, a twenty-six-year old actress. Elizabeth was distraught after her sister Leila, a famous movie star, was murdered. Ted Winters, a multimillionaire and Leila's fiancé, is accused of pushing Leila off the terrace of her own apartment. Elizabeth is scheduled to testify against Ted in court but she her doubts that he murdered her beloved sister.

Elizabeth is invited by a dear friend to come to Cypress Point Spa, an exclusive spa where the rich and famous stay. Elizabeth decides to go to the secluded spa, hoping to escape from all of her troubles. When she arrives at the spa, she is confronted with Ted Winters as well as some of Leila's old friends. As Elizabeth begins to discover clues about her sister's murder, she finds her own life to be in danger. Will Elizabeth be able to find the truth about Leila's death before it's too late?

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to read more. The characters seemed very real to me because the author did a thorough job of describing each one. I thought the author's unique writing style really enhanced the book. The beginning of the book was a little bit slow and slightly confusing, but the suspense made up for it. Another thing I didn't like about the book was that the narrator switched characters with each chapter but this wasn't a big problem. Despite these few things, I think this book was an excellent mystery story and I can't wait to read more books by Mary Higgins Clark. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone, not just those who are fans of mystery, because I really enjoyed it and I hope others will, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for mystery fans., August 14, 2001
This is truly one of Mary Higgins Clark's best mystery novels, that centers around Elizabeth Lange, in desperate search for some inner peace after her sister's murder. Her sister, Leila, became a model after she and Elizabeth left their abusive parents home at a young age. Leila soon became a movie star and married the wealthy Ted. However, one day after an argument with her husband, she is found dead. The police at first label her death as a suicide, but soon her husband is their number one suspect. Weeks before Elizabeth has to go to trial to testify against Ted, she is invited by a dear, old friend to an exclusive spa where the rich and famous go to find relaxation and seclusion from the public eye. There, she finds that close friends of Leila are also at the spa. She soon has her doubts about Ted being the murderer. During her stay at the spa, other people's lives are in danger, including hers. Who really killed Leila and why? Was it really Ted, as she first suspected, or was it someone else who was close to Leila? Read and find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Higgins Clark at her best, June 29, 2000
By
Having read Weep No More, My Lady at least three times and being an avid Higgins Clark reader, I have to say that Mary Higgins Clark definitely put her best work into said book. The plot intrigued me like no other book of hers I have ever read. In Weep No More, My Lady, Elizabeth Lange, a young actress, is grieving over her sister's death more than one year later. Her sister, Leila LaSalle, was murdered at her New York apartment. Preparing to testify against her dead sister's fiancee following his murder indictment in the case, an old friend of hers and accused murderer, Ted Winters, invites her to stay at lovely Cypress Point Spa in California-while Ted is also staying there. Her stay at the spa allows Elizabeth to dwell on her testimony and ponder whether or not it is accurate. As Elizabeth begins to unveil the truth, she is faced with danger. A great book-I definitely recommend this to any Mary Higgins Clark or general suspense fan. A definite page-turner. I could not set this book down!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great murder mystery, May 6, 2004
By A Customer
This book is about the untimely death of a glamorous actress and her sister's mission to discover the truth. The story begins in a small town in Kentucky, where the sun is hotter than hell, and eight-year old Elizabeth waits for her nineteen-year sister, Leila, to return home from work. While Leila is away at work, their mother's boyfriend comes close to molesting Elizabeth. Fortunately, Leila comes home and stops him in the act. Leila, who has been planning her escape from her alcoholic mother, realizes that she cannot leave her sister behind while her mother brings home drunkard to drunkard. Leila takes Elizabeth away and they both move to New York, where Leila becomes a star. Nineteen years later Leila lies dead on the concrete couryard of her penthouse. The accused murderer is Leila's fiance, millionare Ted Winters, someone who Elizabeth and Leila loved and trusted. It is up to Elizabeth to find out what really happened that night. Did she fall? Was she pushed? Is Ted guilty? This is an amazing murder mystery. This is about a woman who had everything, and the people in her inner circle who wanted wanted to take it away. It's about relationships, jealousy, hate and love, and hidden feelings that have been suppressed for so many years. In the end, Elizabeth must find out the truth because as key witness in the trial she holds Ted's life in her hands, hands that yearn to avenge her sister's death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's my Visene?, June 24, 2000

Stephanie Plum (wannabe) "Tammy L" ('burbs of Baltimore, MD (USA)) - See all my reviews
I literally could not put this book down. It took me less than 2 days to finish it. Needless to say, I'm red-eyed and exhausted.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is one of her best! MHC has done it again...left me red-eyed and wondering...who could have been the killer? Boy was I surprised...I had no idea until the "revelation" at the very end.

MHC definitely keeps the suspense going with numerous suspicious characters...Ted, Syd, Cheryl, Nim, Helmut, etc.

You have to read this one. You won't know who "dunnit" unless you read it to the very end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weep No More My Lady is an excellent book., October 21, 1998
By A Customer
Do you like mystery? Do you like suspense? Do you enjoy books that you can't put down? How about books with all sorts of twists and turns? If you do read "Weep No More My Lady" by Mary Higgins Clark. This book includes all of the traits listed above. "Weep No More My Lady" is very well written. You never know what to expect. "Weep No More My Lady" is about Leila LaSalle, a famous movie star who is murdered. The suspect of the murder is the victim's fiancee. The story is about the suspect's defense and how he prepares a testimony. At the same time the prosecution is putting together their case. All the suspects are Leila LaSalle's personal, close friends. While you are reading the book you also begin to catch on to all of Leila LaSalle's friends motives to kill her. While each side is getting ready for the trial both sides begin to find out more information than they would have liked too. All of Leila's friends become suspects of the murder and candidates for the next victim. The worst aspect of the book is it takes a while for the story to really pick up. That's because the author has to build up the story. Be sure to keep reading because once it picks up it's great. The best aspect is you can't put this book down once that happens. This book really makes you think, are your friends really your friends? In "Weep No More My Lady" anything is possible. Another great aspect is Mary Higgins Clark makes you fell like you are there. She makes it possible to visualize everything. "Weep No More My Lady" is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better as the printed version than the Kindle, December 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was amazed and aggravated to discover that the Kindle version of this book leaves the first part out. In the printed version, there is a prologue that takes place in 1969, when Elizabeth is eight years old. That prologue is not on my Kindle version. Without it, the story is understandable, but you don't fully understand the characters of the two sisters and you don't get a full understanding of why Leila didn't trust men. Surely it wasn't left out by accident, but I can't imagine why they'd leave it out on purpose. It seems very odd to me.

Other than that, the story appears to be the same: two sisters come to California; the oldest becomes a famous actress who dies when she falls or is pushed from her balcony. Family, friends and suspects gather at a world-class spa, owned by the woman who gave the actress her start, and new developments bring everyone to a surprising conclusion.
