A Vintage Treasure,
By Felix Avier (NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weeping May Tarry (Mass Market Paperback)
I picked this book up in a used book store because the cover and title intrigued me. An alien carrying a cross? What's that all about? I was very pleasantly surprised with what I found after reading this short novel. From a purely technical standpoint, this is good science fiction. It's fairly basic and straightforward, but then again, it was written in the 70s, and sci-fi didn't need to be as complicated and exciting back then. Aged as it is, I think it holds up very well today. The story is also fairly simple, but it grabs you. The characters are believable and multi-dimensional, and the ending was satisfying. The book (as you may guess) has Christian themes, but they are not too in-your-face or preachy. The religious elements are honest, straightforward, and feel very real and believable. I was touched in a strange way by this book, by following along with the Alcorians in their search for meaning. It's a great read, an oldie but a goodie! |
