More excellence from Bruce Coville,

This review is from: The Weeping Werewolf (Moongobble and Me) (Paperback)
The Moongobble books, while at a 9 YO reading independent reading level, are fine fare for the 5 and 6 YO set who enjoy a good solid story time. The ideas are simple while the vocabulary leaps just enough ahead to make 'em reach. Great stories, great vocabulary and excellent illustrations make these fine gifts for small kids who love to be read to, and bigger kids who love to read.

It's Official..My Son Is Hooked On This Series,
By Tara Misu "Sandy" (Bryan, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weeping Werewolf (Moongobble and Me) (Paperback)
After reading this book with me, my son (he's almost 6)got out of bed and grabbed the next one and handed it over for me to start reading. He was visibly upset that he was handing me Book Three (the third Great Task of three) and was very happy to hear that the series continued on after that.
I was impressed by the casual morality of this book. It was not heavy-handed at all, but simply showed that you should always do the right thing, nit for personal gain, but because it *is* the right thing. There is a moment when all Moongobble's hard work is set to go down the drain (or in this case, poured over the head of someone) and he is sad, but makes the choice to help someone at the expense of finishing his goal. My son was particularly affected by this moment. He told him not to do it. He was demonstrably upset he had done so. And it became a beautiful teaching moment on what was most important in life. It did everything a good book should do. What parent could want more than that?

My 5 and 6 year old boys liked this even more than The Dragon of Doom. As I read it to them, they laughed out loud at Moongobble's magical failures and particularly his curses, "Dad rat monkey fat!" There are many engaging illustrations, although I always wish for more in a book like this. Particularly recommended to younger readers who aren't yet ready for Spiderwick. Can't wait for the Evil Elves!

Great audio for kids!,
This review is from: The Weeping Werewolf (Moongobble and Me) (Paperback)
Moongobble has been assigned his second task to prove he should be a magician: he must get a bottle of tears from the dreaded Weeping Werewolf who lives alone in the forest. Fortunately, Edward, Urk the toad, the Rusty Knight, and Fireball the Dragon are willing to help. When they find the Weeping Werewolf, everyone is in for a big surprise! This charming little series of short children's novels, beautifully narrated and enhanced with cute sound effects by Full Cast Audio is the perfect way to spend an hour with a child on a Sunday afternoon. My daughters and I have enjoyed them immensely. The Weeping Werewolf has some repetitive parts which remind children about the characters and the events so far, but the story moves quickly and comes to a sweet ending that will bring tears to your eyes. We are looking forward to the next MOONGOBBLE AND ME installment: The Evil Elves.

I love the Moongobble and Me series! As a kindergarten/first grade teacher these books were my favorite read aloud chapter books. Both the girls and boys in the class loved them and I enjoyed the writing too. Some of the best things about the series are:*The books have some repetition of language and plot (something that is very engaging for 4-7 year olds). *They are funny (the lovable Moongobble always ends up turning something into cheese) *They have suspense without being too scary *They are a perfect length for an early chapter book All in all, a fun book that is fun to listen to and read.

I became a Bruce Coville fan by this series. I bought it for my daughter and ended up loving it myself. The only complaint is that it is too short. :)
He packs a lot of fun in a short story. This is a great series.
