5.0 out of 5 stars Hallielujah, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Weeville (Audio CD)
When I first bought this album I thought I had just wasted 16 dollars of mine. Songs like "Lag", "What More", and "Skin of My Teeth" turned me off of the album. They were boring and had very little energy in them. I turned the album off and kept it in it's case for a day or two. I took it back out to listen to the song that aquainted me with the band, "Pirouette". In doing so I discovered other songs like "Crawl" and "Mr. Brocoli". I soon fell in love with the whole album.

Why did I give this a five? Because it deserves it. The band is original, writes brilliant lo-fi rock music, and does it well. The album does have some slow spots. Including, "Lag", "What More", "Skin of My Teeth", "Lucky", "Bodies", and "OZone". Those can easily be fixed up by listening to them a couple repetative times. All of the other songs catch on right away. Some specific ones like "Pirouette", "Mr. Brocoli", and "Halielujah Boy".

Basically...Dont judge the album by the first listen. That all you have to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lo-fi never sounded this good., June 24, 2001
This review is from: Weeville (Audio CD)
I don't know what they put in the water in the New Zealand, but for such a small country they seem to have so much good music coming from there. The Tall Dwarfs are indicitive of the best in Kiwi pop, a blend of dissonant noise, punk and sweet sweet melodies. For a benchmark I'd have to (reluctantly) compare them to more well known groups like The Folk Implosion and Pavement, but they're really in a league all of their own. It's a shame that Amazon doesn't have the 3eps compilation as that's equally as good, but Weeville is as good as place as any to begin your love affair with New Zealand pop.
