5.0 out of 5 stars Weezer Tabs...Easy and Fun--By:Kerry
This book is so easy to use and learn. Once you tune down your guitar half a step it sounds just like the actual songs. I would reccommend this to anyone who loves Weezer and wants to learn to play their songs. Weezer is a great band and hopefully we'll get to have the Pinkerton tabs available soon, which is also a terrific album---BUY IT!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars ITS GUITAR MUSIC
Okay I got caught up in the change that it might be a fan book, or something information wise about the band. Its just the music for the blue album and some pictures. I don't play guitar, but its kind of fun to try it out on piano. If you want guitar music, its good, if you didn't, then don't buy it. I don't really regret it, cause it is true, if you are a real weezer...

4.0 out of 5 stars very nice, July 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Weezer (The Blue Album) (Guitar Recorded Version) (Paperback)
this book has every song off of weezer's self-titled album.it has every guitar partwritten out in tab and standard notation, along with the lyrics, even the backing vocals.the only way this book could've been better would be if the basslines were included.however, since matt basically follows the rhythym guitar, which is listed, you can follow that and figure it out, which is a good opportunity to practice your ear training.all in all, this was a very good book.i would like to see one for their second album, pinkerton.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any alternative guitar player, August 10, 2003
By
"stinger31" (Portland, OR, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weezer (The Blue Album) (Guitar Recorded Version) (Paperback)
As far as albums from the "alternative rock" era go, you won't find a better one than Weezer's Blue Album for learning all the basic elements of guitar playing. There's fingerstyle playing, creative octave use, tons of great soloing techniques, different power chord forms, and perfect pop riff after perfect pop riff. The tablature seems to be almost perfectly accurate. Rivers Cuomo is the greatest songwriter in modern rock, and this is his masterpiece; here's the perfect insight into his mastery for any aspiring guitar player.

I bought this book and haven't been disappointed with it. All the tabs sound correct and are easy to read. I would like to see a book for their follow up album pinkerton as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not just the songs, but the series . . ., February 11, 2011
This review is from: Weezer (The Blue Album) (Guitar Recorded Version) (Paperback)
Nothing urks me more than me spending my hard-earned money on sheet music that is some nameless person's reinterpretation of the song I learned to love. Especially when I have to pay to ship it and wait. If it's clearly marked "easy guitar," then the blame would be on me, and that has happened, but more than a few times I've picked up sheet music or tab somewhere and it's barely recognizable as the original recorded version--sometimes it's not even in the same key! And there's nothing on it that indicates this. Can we get a "Some Lazy Transcriber's Version Because We Don't Understand The Real Reasons People Buy This Stuff" stamp on those things?

It's because of that that I absolutely love publisher Hal Leonard's "Guitar Recorded Versions" series. I may not ever get that "Lazy Transcriber" stamp idea off the ground, but--seriously honestly truly--when you see that logo for "Guitar Recorded Versions" on the cover of a book like this, you can rest assured it's perfect. Everything for Weezer's iconic debut is here. Every strum, every acoustic part, every solo, every lick and riff. It shouldn't be that much to ask for in general, but it is actually extremely rare, and Hal Leonard steps up to the challenge (I can say that with confidence because this isn't the only book in this series I own). I got this book 10 years ago and have enjoyed learning how to play these great songs correctly, and have had many years of entertainment in watching other guys try to play "Say It Ain't So" based off of tabs they obviously pulled off the internet that only barely sound like the song. "I learned to play a Weezer song!" No . . . no, you didn't.

Understand--this is not an instructional book. There is an appendix that goes over how to interpret certain tablature symbols, since it still is (and probably always will be) a pretty unstandardized means of transcription, but you'll find no discussion or help on how to play a riff or what fingers to use where, etc. It's a songbook and that's it. That said . . . it's still great for self-teaching. You're just on your own for a lot of stuff. And I love it and recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars One problem that might bug some people, September 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The only thing that bugged me about this was that the tabs were not a half-step down which is the traditional Weezer tuning I was used to from blue and pink. Now if I have to tune up if I want to play along with the album but otherwise its all good.
