Fusion / Prog-Rock Classic,
By Scott McFarland (Manassas, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weidorje (Audio CD)
As the product description notes, Weidorje was founded out of the French band Magma, which is and has been a giant underheard musical force. But that's another story. This record, the band's only LP release, stakes its ground somewhere in the common area between the best jazz-rock fusion of the 1970's and progressive rock. It's good stuff both conceptually and in execution. Bernard Pagnotti's driving bass helps to lift "Elihims Voyage" up into being something great, and the two compositions on the album's B-side are good stuff as well, more to the fusion end of things.

...To the other review here that this also has a strong Space Rock element to it that makes it even more unique from other French Jazz-Rock bands from the same era. The Magma influence is immediately obvious, but this stands on its own two feet with distinction - subtract the overt opera element from Magma and add a healthy serving of Sci-Fi and you'll be a few miles closer to the ballpark!Kind of a mutant hybrid of Magma & Hawkwind? In any event, a French prog-rock masterpiece that is well deserving of reappraisal and your time!
