5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
Lots of people say this book is a joke but I found it to be of great help. The Dr. who wrote it makes perfect sense. I've lost 22 pounds in 4 weeks!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Five Bites Works
Eating only 5 bites for lunch and another for dinner really works. I lost 25lbs right away. The Dr's plan is the easist diet ever. No measuring and no real thinking involved. I'm still following his plan and still losing. Not as fast as his book says but I am still losing. There is not an easier eating plan out there.
The $25 I spent on the book is the hard part...

My sister read this book and has lost over 50 pounds in less than 2 months. She has more energy and is very excited. I read the book and I see no reason why this should not work. It is the same diet that the patients who get the Lap Band surgery are put on. Just skip the surgery, go on the diet, deal with the 3 days of hunger pangs, then after that it is, according to the Dr. and my sister, fairly easy to follow and stay on. I have a few pounds to lose so I will start the diet now.

I am surprised that there aren't more reviews.

The $25 I spent on the book is the hard part. Should have only been $5-10. Can be read in an hour. But I won't complain too much because his plan does work!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's The Truth!, July 2, 2009

I was a guest in the home of the author's parents, and saw the book lying out. I read the entire thing, and it changed my life! Once I realized how the body determines whether it is hungry, and how the body actually processes food (both are astoundingly simple explanations), I knew I could do it too. I went on the diet for 6 days and lost 9 pounds - a feat that took me over a month on Nutri-System. For the first time in my adult life I'm not obese! Now to get the rest of the extra weight off, and no longer be overweight either! My two daughters did the same diet - each lost over 10 pounds in eight days. Having this tool in your self-maintenance arsenal is the greatest gift! I feel younger, more self-confident - I wish for everyone that they could know about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Why Weight Around? Changing The Weight Loss Strategy (Paperback)
I read this book in 1 afternoon, and I was very impressed. Everything makes sense, is logical, and is clear-cut and easy to understand. Not only did I love this book, I also joined the online forum, where Dr. Lewis answers questions, has live chats, and provides coaching for people who are eating this way. If the general public supports those who are wanting to get a gastric bypass performed, then everyone should support Dr. Lewis's plan as well.

My husband has lost 25lbs in 2wks since starting this diet. Outstanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good diet approach for the impatient, January 31, 2010

This review is from: Why Weight Around? Changing The Weight Loss Strategy (Paperback)
The book is short and sweet and provides a different approach to weight loss. I have read much criticism of this diet, people saying "once you go off the diet, you'll regain all the weight." Can't the same be said of any diet? Anytime you stop dieting and go back to eating the quantity of food that got you fat in the first place, you will re-gain. What I like about this diet is that you really do get used to eating smaller portions, so when you are done losing weight, it is easier to eat less.

I only gave the book four stars, even though the diet itself should get five. The reason for this is that the book is a little expensive for the length. Also, I think Dr. Lewis could really combat critcis of the book by including a chapter with suggestions on how to return to normal eating. For example, when you're five pounds away from your goal weight, go up to 10 bites per meal.. or something like that.

If you are going to do the diet you don't really need to buy the book, but it helps a lot. The first three days of the diet (before your body goes into ketosis and gets used to the smaller portions) really are tough and it helps to read and re-read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It makes sense and works, January 22, 2010

There is a lot of criticism around this approach, however I have never met anyone who has read the book and is still against it.

This is by far the safest, simplest and most natural weight loss strategy that I have come across. It makes the body do what it should with the stored fat.

The hunger pangs go away in the first 3 days and you get used to the reduced portions before you even know it.

I have lost 11Lbs in the last 10 days alone that I have been following this approach.

Update - 6/11/2010

I lost a total of 21 Lbs in the 31 Days that I did this diet. It has been 4 months since I got off the diet and have not gained any of the weight back. I have been eating normally since then (more or less).

I will be starting with this again next week and will post another update..

I have detailed my day to day experience with this diet at [...] if anyone is interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Sense, December 18, 2010

The concept of this book might sound crazy at first, but it really makes sense when you think of it. It puts things into perspective for you about how the body works. I was using the method for about 2 weeks and it worked great for me, you can eat whatever you want and still be satisfied. I then found out I was pregnant so I've stopped the diet, but now I feel confident that I can loose my post-pregnancy weight easily with this diet.

I read about this diet on a wesite slamming it on how terrible it was. I then noticed that the author of the article had not read the book, or even tried the diet for more than a single day. I figured this person didn't do enough research, so I decided to ignore her snark, and make my own decision. I read what the diet was in the article, basically eat 5 bites of whatever you want twice a day. That is pretty much it. I did this on my own (very loosely, maybe 3 or 4 days a week)without reading the book, and lost 40 pounds in 3 months. It was so easy, I did the 5 bites when I could, and ate "whatever" amount of bites on the days I felt like it. The days I stuck to the 5 bites kept my hunger down, (he said it shrunk the stomach, so to speak) so i felt full quicker, and ate less on days when I didn't "count my bites" naturally. I weighed myself every day on the days after I ate what I wanted, and when I saw a gain that was more than I wanted, I would do 5 bites twice a day untill it was off. I maintained my weight using this method for the past 7 months, typically having to count bites for a day or two every week or two to keep myself in check. Not bad at all! Nothing like obsessing over food and calories like I had on other diets. I absolutely love it, it works great for me.

So, to the actual book review. The book is super short, almost like a pamphlet. It can be read in under an hour. As I said the diet is 5 bites of anything twice a day, so there's really not much to write about. He pretty much answers the questions that everyone is bound to ask:

Arent you hungry? For the first day or two, yes. But it goes away, just like any other diet

It sounds so unhealthy, is it? Well, it could be, depending on what you eat, but it is meant for short term. He is a doctor who has done studies on his patients, some who ate snickers exclusively, and has all sorts of labs and collected data to show what happened to their health while eating this way. (their health improved, even eating junk food for a few weeks straight)

Can you do this for a long period of time? In the book he has patients who did it for months.

As I mentioned, the book is just for reassurance for the "this can't be right" feeling. Not much info, but I find it helpfull to read through on days I want to stay motivated. $25 for a paperback book less than a quarter inch thick, with HUGE type seems crazy, But $25 to keep me motivated to lose 50 pounds (i'm going to lose 10 more) is well worth it.
