The support you need to be successful with weight-loss surgery

If you're considering weight-loss surgery, or have already had it, you're probably filled with expectations, concerns--and a million questions. Author Melissa deBin-Parish knows what you're going through. She and her husband, Dan, lost a combined 300 pounds after their surgeries in 2003. Melissa went from a size 24 to a size 4, dramatically improved her life, and started her own support group to help other patients find the same success. Today, her website is one of the most popular and informed support groups available for patients. And now, with this comprehensive guide, she's combined the firsthand experiences of other weight-loss surgery patients with the latest medical information to help you:

  • Decide if surgery is right for you
  • Choose the best surgeon and procedure
  • Overcome “emotional eating”
  • Get the support you need
  • And keep the weight off for life!

You'll also find invaluable insider's tips, delicious recipes, and journal pages to make your journey positive, successful, and rewarding. And, with the right guidance, you'll see just how wonderful it can be to transform your body, your health, your attitude, and your life.

More About the Author

Dan & I both had laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, same day in 2003, and lost a combined 300 lbs. After that surgery, our life began changing drastically, for the better, from the very first day. We did however discover there is a huge void when it comes to support and/or information. What most need is a little straight shooting and a lot of understanding and caring and just knowing others share in their journey. That's what we're here for. Sharing, caring, supporting and even fussing at times when we see people pushing the envelope too much. We can't help ourselves but feel compelled to talk with anyone and everyone that will listen regarding the miraculous changes in our lives due to having a great surgeon and a great procedure available to us.

We're here to constantly learn and grow and maximize this great tool. Come share in our journey and maybe it will in some small way help with your own journey as well. Feel free to e-mail (melissa@connectionwls.com) us or join us for online chats (www.connectionwls.com) too. The support family we have is worldwide and all are welcome to join in. We look forward to getting to know you too.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need this book!, November 2, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Paperback)
I read this book in one day, but I will be referring to it for years to come. It is very well written. It not only gives all the information you need during your decision making period, but covers preop issues and post op ideas real well. I have had the surgery and I especially liked the anecdotes from people who have been there. There are also some great ideas for getting your protein, and the many good receipes included are real world... even I can prepare them. I can't think of anything negative to say about the book. I know that the author has had the surgery and she moderates a very active online forum.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, November 24, 2008
This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Paperback)
I looked at the book and the web site...there are much better products on the market that provide comprehensive information. Interesting that there are so many used copies of this book already available; clearly not a keeper. A much better choice for well-rounded information is The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients.
There is a web site associated with this book as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars I know what went into this book, December 10, 2008

This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Paperback)
I and many others shared in this journey with Melissa and also know what a labor of love this book has been for her. She cares so deeply about the patients and the support group family and she actually answers every single email she receives (10,000+ per month) from patients all around the world. This book came from her heart and from the hearts of so many of the support family that shared their stories. It also is founded in solid information with bariatric professionals as the sources (ongoing too in answering questions) to make sure the answers are the correct ones. It's important to be an informed and proactive patient and look at perspectives and info from all angles. You can never have too much information or too many people that care enough to be there long term along your journey. If you haven't checked out the message board that goes with the book, please do! You'll find a fantastic group of people that will be your friends for life. [...]
