I read this book in one day, but I will be referring to it for years to come. It is very well written. It not only gives all the information you need during your decision making period, but covers preop issues and post op ideas real well. I have had the surgery and I especially liked the anecdotes from people who have been there. There are also some great ideas for getting your protein, and the many good receipes included are real world... even I can prepare them. I can't think of anything negative to say about the book. I know that the author has had the surgery and she moderates a very active online forum.

I looked at the book and the web site...there are much better products on the market that provide comprehensive information. Interesting that there are so many used copies of this book already available; clearly not a keeper. A much better choice for well-rounded information is The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients.
There is a web site associated with this book as well.

I know what went into this book,
By DanO "Dan Parish" (Brandon Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Paperback)
I and many others shared in this journey with Melissa and also know what a labor of love this book has been for her. She cares so deeply about the patients and the support group family and she actually answers every single email she receives (10,000+ per month) from patients all around the world. This book came from her heart and from the hearts of so many of the support family that shared their stories. It also is founded in solid information with bariatric professionals as the sources (ongoing too in answering questions) to make sure the answers are the correct ones. It's important to be an informed and proactive patient and look at perspectives and info from all angles. You can never have too much information or too many people that care enough to be there long term along your journey. If you haven't checked out the message board that goes with the book, please do! You'll find a fantastic group of people that will be your friends for life. [...]

Not what I expected,

This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Kindle Edition)
I just bought this book on my Kindle. I find that the title is somewhat misleading, as it says it's a book about weight loss surgery, but it's clearly "biased", concentrating on gastric bypass surgery, not all weight loss sugeries. I am a pre-op wls lapband patient, and I am looking for books that help all wls patients be successful after their surgery. I was not expecting a book on WLS that would make a statement saying that the lapband is a "temporary" solution to a permanent problem. At this time in my journey, I need to feel good about my choice, not feel unconfident about it.
Maybe further on, there will be information that be helpful to me and my success, but I am not sure about that. At this point, I am not sure if I will keep the book or have it removed from my kindle. As for it being in the Kindle format, I am seeing that I am missing some of the contents, because they are not there. There are articles that start within the text, that are not completed, so I don't know what the article was about. That is one other reason that I may return it. I expect that a Kindle book to be as complete as it's regular book format.

A Keeper!,
This review is from: The Weight-Loss Surgery Connection (Paperback)
I bought this book after my gastric bypass surgery.I was a member of the website already and Melissa and Dan helped me with all my questions and concerns-even more so than my own doctor!(who was difficult to reach sometimes)When I bought the book I read it in one sitting. If I was someone considering gastric bypass surgery this book would address all fears, concerns and doubts.I loaned it to a friend who is considering the surgery. All I know is Melissa and Dan are kind, giving dedicated people who give their lives completely to helping people considering or who have had gastric bypass surgery. They have a huge following and they do their best to answer every single question posted-an exhausting undertaking. I loved the book and plan to share it with anyone it may help.

Reading this book was like having the author sitting right in front of you having a conversation. I wish I had had this book before my surgery. I have however gotten to know Melissa Parish (the author) from joining her website that shares the same name as her book (Weight-Loss Surgery Connection). I have been so pleased with the uplifting comments and help provided by Melissa and the rest of the group on-line. There (and the book as well) you get honest support and feedback from people who have actually gone through the surgery. Not a book written by a surgeon who while they may have performed hundreds of surgeries has never personally gone through what I go through on a daily basis.
I highly recommend this book!

I wish I had had this book before I'd had my weight loss surgery! It is full of so much good information and advice that would have saved me from having a LOT of problems! The Parish's do a great job in maintaining the web site associated with this book as well. They are constantly giving great advice, direction and encouraging people toward a healthier, happier life. Great Job Melissa and Dan!
