I've been feeling frustrated with weight loss and diet books for a long time. They give me some formula for eating, I lose a bunch of weight, then a few months later it's all back and it's brought some friends!This book gets to the heart of weight loss. At heart, weight loss is about my mind, not my body, and this book gave me a clean, clear plan (with a free workbook) for how to prepare myself for the mental challenges of weight loss. I've noticed a difference after reading this book. Just now (which is what inspired me to write this review), I am sitting here on a cold, gray Sunday morning. Usually I would quickly find myself in the kitchen cooking waffles or cookies or some yummy warm snack. After reading this book, I find that I have new skills that allow me to find other ways to handle that little bit of boredom, loneliness and depression that would usually send me running to the fridge. I've always known that weight loss is 90% a mental game. This book shows me how to play that game to win. It comes with a helpful workbook, and clear action steps at the end of each chapter that are worth their weight in gold!

I am just started using Kevin Myers' methods and they are working for me (I need to eliminate junk food!). I downloaded his Quick Start Guide (he gives you the website for this) and I find that I stay true to my goals when I write down what they are. Kevin Myers also sent me an email welcoming me and lets you know that he is available for questions, etc. I like the personal touch from the author.

PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY reason this book did not receive a five star rating from me is because I haven't tried out the process and I don't know how well it will work. I LOVED THE FORMAT!About the book: The book is divided into chapters, each on one aspect of this weight loss program with a guide at the end of each chapter outlining the four important ideas the reader should take from the section. These come under the heading of attitude, skills, action, and important notes. This allows the user to go directly to the part of the book with exactly what it is he needs to implement this program. While the book doesn't bring anything particularly NEW to the table, ;-) he does bring it in a tight, lean format, and brings several strands of weight loss knowledge together making it much easier for the reader to see how they interrelate. From suggestions on how to avoid excuses through making lists to what to do for exercise, this book has all of it in a short, easy to read format. There are also links to supporting tools, including a journal to make the process more complete. My take I actually enjoyed reading the book. When I said it was lean, I mean very lean and to the point. In fact, the whole of this book has less in it than many of the forwards and introductions in other weight loss books. But if you buy the book, you won't be cheated. All the material you need it there with no fat to clog your way. The print is large with lots of white space, making it easy for the reader to find exactly what they want to look up. There is no digging through extraneous material to find the gold nuggets of important or necessary information. Will this work for someone trying to lose weight? I don't know but I do know Myers covers a lot of material helpful to the process. I also know from personal experience it is easy to lose weight if you eat only when you are physically hungry and do fifteen minutes of exercise a day. Doing that might take more than just deciding to do it. This is where this book may well make a difference. It contains straight forward advice on how to deal with the little demons holding you back and gives practical advice and easy actions to help fight them. I do recommend this book based on the format and how it ties so many ideas together. I can not comment on how well people will do following the advice in the book but I suspect following the processes in this book drastically improves one's chances at losing weight.

The author has a simple and engaging style that keeps you reading. The information in the extract that I have read is distressingly familiar and as he says something everyone is aware of. He is also correct in that it is a battle in the mind. I enjoyed this and can see that it will be of great assistance.

The beginning of this diet book had me checking the cover to be sure I'd bought the right item. It's unlike any I've ever read and I was delighted to be hearing from someone who'd not only gone through the same hell but also someone who had a sense of humor. It kept me interested when most diet books just make me sleepy!
Then it got into the chapters and I was blown away by the honesty and organization. Each chapter ends with a shortlist of daily and metal things to do and it just made so much sense that I decided to try his plan. All I have to do it go to the links provided and print out the sheet I need. Super easy. The no fear cheating system came next and I have to admit, it's the part I like the best so far. The author makes it very easy for you to forgive yourself and retrain your mind into healthier habits. No finger signals on the highway was great, had me laughing during a part where brutal honesty is being asked of you and it eased those feelings. The author gives detailed ways to fight what he calls the bad boys and anyone should be able to follow those steps. I didn't care much for the cursing but it added to the impression of a good, solid plan by telling me he isn't some quack out to take my money. I also liked the fact that he tells the truth about the Western diet. Its killing people and everyone should know. When it came to the actual diet, I couldn't help but grimace but when I saw there was still a small amount of foods on there that I can't live without, it was all good and I just got started. maybe I'll fail but at least I tried. I'll update maybe and let everyone know how it worked. it certainly looks different than the other diet books. So far, I think it's a great book. I mean that. I only have about 25 lbs to go but I plan to drop to drop them using these techniques and thank you to the author for the sense of humor! It made the book easy to read. Did I mention I like the name too? (I reserve the right to change my mind later but doubt I will.)

I had given up on trying to lose weight until I read this book. It gave me the kick in the you know what to get started. It is full of common sense and wise advice and best of all you don't really have to run out and buy a lot of things just to get started. I have already lost weight and I have just finished the book and started following his advise. It gave me hope again. I am actually thinking of buying a physical copy to carry with me at all times.

This was a great book. The first reason I liked it was that it was positive. It never once made me feel stupid for being overweight, which sometimes these sort of books can. Secondly, this book told me things I already knew, but put things together in such a way that made sense. It was a great motivational tool. It didn't tell me how to lose weight, because there are so many different ways to do that, but rather, gave me the mental attitude that was needed to get started. It was a great supplement as I started Weight Watchers. It's like having your own personal cheerleader. I would recommend this book as great support for your weight loss journey :)

I have probably read 30+ diet books in my life and this is by far THE best one ever. Written in a fun but yet straightforward and honest manner it doesn't present the reader with the usual "you must do this or that precisely this way" but instead gives good, common sense advice that anyone and everyone can apply to their lives. If you are looking for a book with strict regiments and dozens of recipes this is not the book for you. If however you are ready to make a permanent lifestyle change I believe this book would be well worth reading and probably the only one you'll need to read. As someone who has lost significant weight and kept it off for nearly a decade before slowly gaining it back I can say that the basic tenants laid out in this book are the ones I followed when I lost and maintained my weight loss and I am convinced that by getting back to the basics I can do it again and for the rest of my life.

At first I judged this book by its cover, and almost didn't purchase it - very glad I looked past my pre-conceived notions and gave it a go. This book is the only one of its type that speaks to me at a useful and meaningful level; to the real reasons I have not thus far succeeded in becoming thin. Finally I feel I have the tools to succeed! I love how the author has been where I am, and is now at the point I am trying to reach. Whatever eating style is your preference, this book will help and encourage you along a very personal, individualised journey. Hopefully I will be back to update this review as I work my way to my goals.

This is a fabulous book! I would recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight. The book is an easy read and the author's personal stories are very motivating. It provides action steps to keep you accountable for your weight loss and I love the 15 min. workout session. Definitely worth the purchase!
