Excellent Resource!,

I purchased this book for myself and my husband after we gave up our gym membership. My husband was not as sure with himself on how to use free weights but he has excelled with this book. The book is in a great format. It is spiral bound and you can stand it up to keep a good eye on the exercise your are doing without worrying about the book closing on you. The author has used excellent photographs and descriptions of how to do each exercise and what muscles each works. There are also good sections on general health, nutrition and how to personalize your own workout. This is of course and excellent book for beginners but for myself (intermediate) I have found it a good refresher that presents ways to make each exercise a bit harder as you progress. A great purchase!

I purchased this book sight unseen. I was a novice in weight training. This book demonstates that one does not need a lot of special equipment to benefit from weight training: a few dumbbells, a chair and a mat are all that is required to begin. The book explains, and shows in pictures, how to properly perform each technique. The muscle(s) involved are shown or explained for each exercise. It has a section for absolute beginners and an intermediate section. Both are helpful. My limited experience has shown that I must carefully review the basics often to ensure that I am getting the benefits and avoiding the possible injury pitfalls. The section on the importance of stretching is great. This book is helpful.

This book does provide basic instruction for a beginner with weight training that is easy to understand. It provides visuals of each exercise that follows the written instruction. It helped me add some exercises to my routine of using weight equipment at the gym.
