very futuristic....looking, September 26, 2004

The reason why I paid 50 dollars for this scale was because 1. I thought it looked very cool and 2. I thought for that kind of money I would be getting something very accurate, after all it does weight to the tenth of a pound. I did read the other reviews about its inaccuracy, but chose to ignore them. Don't make the same mistake I did. I can go on and off the scale 10 times in a row and never get the same reading, not even close. I get extreme weights from 130lbs to 155lbs. Last I knew my weight was around 140lbs but I'll NEVER know with this piece of crap. I thought maybe it was just my slight movements that was throwing the numbers off so I weighed objects and still got varied results. But I must say it looks really cool.

Although, the Weight Watchers ww42 scale may look nice on your bathroom floor, its measurements are terribly inconsistant.
After zeroing the scale and paying close attention to my foot placement, I can get off the scale and back on the same way with almost a 5 pound differance in weight reading.

I would only recommend buying this scale if you want a pretty piece of modern art for your bathroom with no function. I bought it after reading an article in a health magazine reviewing bathroom scales, and this one was rated highly. It did work well for about a month, then suddenly went haywire. It gives a different reading anywhere you place it on the floor. At first I thought our house was just uneven but then I realized to have a weight discrepancy range that large, part of the bathroom must be above a black hole. So you wake up in the morning, weigh yourself and say hey, I lost a pound! Then weigh again, and suddenly you have gained two. Wait, is my diet working or not? Who knows how many times I have switched to a different plan when my old one was working fine, because this scale misled me? Also, if you leave it in one place, it seems to get stuck on one weight, no matter how wrong it is. You can stand on it in scuba gear with handweights and weigh yourself, then get off, take off all your clothes and weigh again, and it says you weigh the same thing.
It is also very difficult to turn on, and it takes longer to warm up/calibrate than other electric scales I have owned. Sometimes it just takes a small tap in the right place to turn it on, sometimes you have to kick it so hard you jam your knee to make it come on. The star I gave it is for aesthetic value and because I think the glass of the platform is strong enough it would not break if I were to hurl this scale at the wall.
I'm guessing most people who gave it a good review have only owned it for a short while. I don't think the magazine that convinced me to buy it used it for more than a day either. So be warned, mine has not had lasting value. Also, recently two of the feet have fallen off the bottom, leaving it completely unbalanced and useless.
