More of a cardio routine than an ab-back workout,

This is a good video for those who are beginners or are getting back into a fitness routine. The instructor, Kathe, walks you through each new move and gives excellent cues throughout. There are three levels of difficulty/intensity shown; beginner through advanced. I am in my early twenties, in okay shape, and found the intermediate level to be very good for a moderate workout. The focus of the video is on the cardio. There is a 5-10 minute segment on back and ab work. This section is not as good because the illustration of the form isn't clear...I stressed my neck muscles with many of the ab moves. I would recommend another video for the ab work. Other than that, the segment is a light workout. The tone of the video is late eighties, with somewhat cheesy moves. With the exception of the ab segment, this is a good video for beginners. Some prior aerobic experience will help get the moves faster, but definitely not necessary.

I have had this video for about 5 years now and I still go back to it after trying many of the NEW and IMPROVED workouts.
When it comes to aerobics or dance I not only have 2 left feet, I can't coordinate my upper and lower body movements. Additionally, I have low back pain, a bad knee and am WAY out of shape. But this video I was able to pick up right away. It is low-impact, yet can be made more strenuous with higher leg lifts, weights and faster or more repetitions. This is a video my preteens can do as well. I do have a bad back and flimsy abs so this is a good workout for me. Some days when my back pain has flared up I do not do the floor exercises and may repeat the standing portion. This workout has music that is not over-powering REAL instructors who aren't fakey or showing off. Yes, it has a late "eighties" feel to it, but it is the exercise I am after not trends and fashion. I also recommended this to a very fit friend who just wasn't liking her current videos and she has thanked me over and over. I hope Weight Watchers releases this again on DVD. |
