This CD has so much going for it. On the one hand, there's an eclectic musicality that borrows from sources as far and wide as Squeeze to Yes to Miles Davis. On the other hand, there are courageously personal lyrics that nevertheless evoke such strong empathy - the 'I know that feeling' factor. So, whether you're turned on or tuned in at the heart-level or the head-level, this CD really resonates. To use an analogy: this CD is a real eco-tone. Eco-tones are places where different ecosystems border and link. They are places of particularly intense biodiversity, life and natural creativity. This CD's like that - its richness stems from the fusion of so many different musical influences and so many intense emotions.

I was given Slau's CD as a gift and all I can say is, "Wow!" This fellow is really amazing! Talk about touching nerves! If you've ever fallen in or out of love, you'll hear it in Slau's music and lyrics. He's "been there, done that," and shares the emotions in a way that anyone -- on either side of the equation -- can relate to! A very special artist. Give this CD to yourself as a gift and to someone you love...

A marvelous journey of both depth and distance. Ranging from upbeat and frisky do downright moving. This album is an obvious exorcism of past demons but it contains a great deal of hope as well. Painfully honest and joyously real this album doesn't settle into a predefined genre or niche but is just flat out great.

Slau's first solo effort takes us on a journey through his soul following him from the breakup of his marriage to his hopes for the future. Slau's experience as singer, songwriter, engineer, and producer come together in this well crafted gem as he melds many influences into his own sound.

Slau's CD not only stands solidlly on its own merits -- but also is a promise of greater things to come. Incredible songwriting -- the WEIGHT of WORDS indeed! The lyrics paint indelible images, mirror our hopes and fears, touch the soul. An eclectic sense of musicality seamlessly worked to create a harmonious whole -- diversity unified. The doting care lavished on the arrangements and production is apparent. Slau has shared his musical vision and brings us something very special. Listen.

Do yourself a favor and buy "The Weight of Words". It will be an emotional and musically exciting experience. If you are like most people, and need a comparison before you listen to something new, think Duncan Sheik meets Sting with a bit of Stevie Wonder thrown in... Do your ears a tremendous service and go for a wild aural ride with Slau's "the Weight of Words". Now, here's the clincher - this review comes from his former partner, about whom some of the "break up songs" were written. So, if these words don't hold some weight... I can't help you. Seriously, you will thank me for this.
