"Gregg's life has changed so much for the better since losing the weight. And there's a lesson for all of us in his story. I've often said, because of our unique experiences, those struggles with our weight have created a unique bond between us all. We really are kind of like family. I mean, even though each of our stories have different plots, we can see a bit of our own lives in everyone else's weight-loss fight. I'd like to invite you to take a look at Gregg's story, Weightless. Yes, it may have some different twists and turns from your own struggles. But I can guarantee, as you read his story, you're going to see a little bit of your own life in his. Like I said, the plots may be different but we're all truly so very much alike. Just like Gregg, many of you have battled that weight for most of your lives but, believe me, you don't have to. There is a way out. You've just got to do like I once did, like so many of the people I've worked with have done and...like Gregg has done. You've got to stop ignoring the elephant in the room!" Richard Simmons TV Icon and fitness guru

“Weightless is a delicious read in every way. In this funny, wise, and emotionally honest book, Gregg McBride offers hope and inspiration to weight-challenged people longing for change and acceptance without sacrificing their true selves.”Catherine Whitney, Coauthor, Eat Right 4 Your Type

“Only Gregg could tell a story that’s this dark with this much humor. He brings hope to the most desperate situations in a refreshing and inspiring way.” Regina King, Actor/Director/Producer

“As someone who has struggled mightily with my weight and feeling “not good enough,” I can proudly say that this book has helped me to find my way again. I’m sure it will do the same for you!” Matt Hoover, Winner, The Biggest Loser

From the Back Cover

Gregg McBride was always determined to make it big -- Although not quite this literally.

By the time he was a young adult, Gregg McBride topped the scales at over 450 pounds and wore a sixty-inch belt.

Pretending airline seatbelts fit across his belly, eating out of the trash to cheat on his diets, and working as an overweight stripper are just some of the misadventures Gregg endured as he continually tried to win his battle of the bulge.

It was only when Gregg took an inward journey that he was able to free himself from his food addiction and take off more than 250 pounds of excess weight, which he’s kept off for over a decade.

Alternately hilarious and heartbreaking in its honesty Weightless is a tale of “food gone wrong” that chronicles the before, the during, and the after in a way no other book has, and will move, educate, entertain, and inspire anyone who is ready for change.

Finally someone who really lost a whole bunch of weight (without surgery, without being on a TV show, without being rich) writes to tell the real story of what it’s like to be fat (without leaving out any details — not even the tragic or sad ones). I love the honesty. I love the humor. And I love that he includes a bonus section with real tips the rest of us can use without trying to sell us on one specific diet.

Excellent and candid book! So motivating and could not put it down. I am not in the category of weight that he had to lose at all, but it sure did help me spot some things that are stopping my own progress. This book is far more about the process of getting your life under control in a healthy lifestyle than it is about what to do specifically.

I give it 4 out of 5 because it does not tell you much about what he DID do in more detail. But the story is so compelling that it is quite good. I would give it 4.5 if this was possible. I did find myself looking for more specifics. There are so many books on the market to find this so it is not a big issue.

HIGHLY recommend it!

I am trying to lose weight, myself. It was helpful to hear about Gregg's journey. I feel for him and the (what could have potentially continued to be) devastating experience of his childhood. Gregg's gifts are in his honesty and candidness, and that was what I appreciated most.

I was also really desperately looking for his personal insights about his binge eating. That he does deliver. I was 60% of the way in when they really appeared. I think this is only fair because much of the rest of the book leads up to these realizations by describing his disordered eating. It was well worth my time to read the entire book and I definitely have some take-always to think about.

This book succeeds where so many others fail. Gregg is an inspiration to all of us, not only becuase he lost a tremendous amount of weight in a healthy way, and kept it off - but because he did it despite all of the struggles he was facing. He has no problem admitting what others would hide. He sees that in doing so, he's free of those challenges and has truly overcome them.

This is a well written, thought provoking and inspiring book that will have you laughing and crying but will make you feel as if you are not alone in your weight loss struggles and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Bravo Mr. McBride.

One of the best books I've ever read on weight issues. An amazing story including a tragic childhood, horrendous emotional suffering when he weighed 450 lbs, amazing courage to persist and keep persisting until he won his weight battle, keeping over 250 lbs off for more than 10 years. Lots of excellent advice at the end, the most important of which is to avoid the mindset which says you can never have certain foods again, and that you must always be perfect on your eating plan. Those just lead to binges, or as he says, being "off" your plan. I have never seen such excellent advice on taking off weight and keeping it off.

Wow, can't believe it took so long to get around to reading this book! Wish I had read it earlier. I've been accused of savor ing every word because I read so slowly but finished this book in one weekend. It is that well written! It moves very fast. Every time I had to put it down, I couldn't stop thinking of where I had left off. It's haunting that way.

The book provides an eye opening perspective from one who has been exposed to indifference from ones parents and prejudice from the public due his size. The author is more candid about his experiences than any author I have ever read before. As a result of reading this book, I will be more aware and compassionate.

Heartbreaking as well as heartwarming, this memoir will touch you with its authenticity, courage, and tenacity. Gregg McBride endured an awful early family life by turning to food as comfort, and traveled the long and painful road to recovery with wit, perseverance, and passion. He is not only someone who survived his traumatic upbringing but also found a way to thrive, drawing on his enormous personal resources and receiving encouragement from a host of supportive, honest friends (who share their unique perspectives in the book). The last few chapters are especially touching, as Gregg shows his inner psychological work that dovetails the enormous work he invested to change his eating and exercise habits. I admire him and hope that others will read this truly inspiring memoir.

Gregg McBride's journey was enthralling to read and when it was finally time for him to change his lifestyle for good, he gives easy to follow, clear cut information. I enjoy reading weight loss stories, but usually tune out when it comes to the recipe section. Gregg's recipes were few, centered around some healthy entrees and side dishes that even I could make. I feel like I made a friend reading this book, and I will miss him.
