5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Informative
This book has not only information you would expect in any dog book but also provides information specific to the traits of a Weimaraner. The chapter, "Understanding Your Weimaraner," sets the tone for the rest of the book. These dogs need special people who will take the time to understand them. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Base Knowledge
After owning Weimaraners for several years, I decided to see what was out there that was being said about them. This book is a general good base knowledge of the breed. I think that it does encapsulate the disposition of a Weimaraner. However, it appears to focus on all the hard stuff and none of the satisfaction points from owning a dog of this breed. It is a good...

This book has not only information you would expect in any dog book but also provides information specific to the traits of a Weimaraner. The chapter, "Understanding Your Weimaraner," sets the tone for the rest of the book. These dogs need special people who will take the time to understand them. The chapter, "Sharing Your Life With a Weimaraner," provided numerous suggestions for harnessing the fantastic energy and love of this breed. In between, I learned a lot about Weimaraners. All in all, I would suggest this book for anyone who is interested in acquiring a Weimaraner or for anyone who already has one and wants to know more about the breed.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Weimaraner Thanks Me for Reading this Great Book!, February 28, 2005
This review is from: Weimaraners (A Complete Pet Owner's Manual) (Paperback)
If you're reading this review and have a Weimaraner, we already have something in common-that very special bond with a very special and unique breed of dog that really stands out from the crowd.

My life changed when I got my beautiful and loving dog, Savannah. While I was waiting for her to be old enough to pick up from the breeder, I purchased "Weimaraners: Everything About Housing, Care, Nutrition, Breeding and Health Care", written by Susan Fox. I had a Weimaraner, several years ago, but she was a senior Weimer and at 9 years of age I was pretty sure I wasn't going to change too many of her habits. I took her from a shelter and we share a beautiful and exciting life together until she passed away.

I wanted to do everything right and I found all of the answers to my questions when I read this book. It really IS a "Complete Pet Owner's Manual" and I suggest that all Weimaraner parents purchase this or check it out from your local library.

It's filled with eveything from what to feed them, to how to successfully exercise them, to housing them properly, breeding and much, much more. Susan Fox deserves a great deal of credit for writing a manual that has been a sort of "Weimaraner Bible" for me. And my life with Savannah is going just fantastic. I owe a great deal of credit to the book and to Savannah.

It's a really good read for Weimaraner lovers. You'll relate to so much and there is plenty of information in there for everyone! It's organized well and the index makes sense and will direct you to the precise area you're looking for.

Happy Reading and Happy Raising of your Weimaraner. It's a great experience.

Thanks..

This book tells you everything you nned to know about Weims'. We have owned Weims before but needed a refresher on the puppy training. I found all that was said to be very accurate. The information was complete and easy to apply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got this book when researching, please make an informed decision, August 18, 2010

I have a little different perspective I think. This was one of a few books we purchased (or maybe it was a gift) when we were researching the breed.

We LOVE Weims. They are gorgeous. We love William Wegman. We even used his cards for both our wedding invites and thank you notes. Our plan was to get a Weim and name it Sage. Until my husband did a lot of research and realized that maybe we needed to reconsider. The main issue was that this was a high energy dog that needed a lot of excercise and also was fairly large. (I'm 5'3" on a good day.)

We ended up getting a Vizsla (a high energy breed that looks very much like a Weim and has some similar traits), then a second Vizsla.

Then, I fell in love with two VERY WELL TRAINED and LAID BACK full grown Weims that had an energy eerily similar to our pack at a rescue booth at a carnival. (Vizslas are similar in energy but a bit different- they have a bit of Weim in their lineage.) Realizing we just didn't have room for the two brothers in our suburban home (that would total 4! dogs)-- I couldn't bear to break the pair-- I also realized my heart was open to one more dog and we rehomed another Vizsla.

Ramble, ramble. So my point is-- you are wise to do your research and find out if and how you can be the right owner for this breed. Second, if you are considering one dog of this energy-- really consider two. The pair will be much happier and give each other something you can't.

They are beautiful and wonderful dogs. Just be sure. The dogs deserve a forever home!

I guess this isn't directly about the book, but it came up for my list and sparked a good memory. Get the book. Get more info so you make an informed decision. If you have any doubts in your mind after reading up, please contact a Weim rescue person in your area and ask them questions. I would think they would love to help you make an informed decision.

Best to you!

This book is a great all-around new dog owner book. For those who have had a dog before, it might be a bit basic. I thought the information specific to Weimaraners was lacking. It was an easy read, though. A great bathroom book. :) I really enjoyed learning about the history of the breed and more details from The Essential Weimaraner.
