Killing Heidi will one day take over the world,
By M. Good (Earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weir (Audio CD)
I spent this past year in Australia and returned with close to 30 CD's all by Australian artists. My two most treasured purchases were Killing Heidi's Weir and Mascara singles. I spent a month in Shepparton, not far from where Ella and Jesse are from and met heaps of people who know them and everybody had nothing but words of praise for this brother and sister team. Ella, at only 17, has a voice of an angel driven by a powerful determination and belts out her very own lyrics in her very own style. This band is one to watch in the future. I for one will do all I can to bring Killing Heidi to Canada.

Another strong Aussie talent,

The past year has brought about a surge of new Australian talent in Australia. The debuts have sprung from everywhere and encompass a wide array of musical styles. Bachelor Girl, Vanessa Amorosi, Diana Ah Naid (not a debut but a rebirth), Madison Avenue, S2S, and Joanne have all jumped out from the woodwork to entrench themselves quite firmly in the top 10 Australian singles at one time or another. Perhaps ironically then the best Australian debut of 1999 is yet to reach the National top 10 with their excellent single "Weir". Killing Heidi are the most exciting Australian debut artists in a long time (I would say since Silverchair) and throughly deserve the success I'm sure will soon follow. What amazes me about Killing Heidi is the fact that they are able to use the youthful exuberance (Ella is only 16) and mix it with a naivety that sounds remarkably knowing and intelligent. Amazing vocals, strong lyrics and melodies and really good instrumentation, Killing Heidi's "Weir" is the Australian single of the year. It should be marketed overseas for their sake as well as the sake of the Australian Music Industry. Talent like this deserves to be heard. Warning: If Killing Heidi perform live anywhere near you GO and see them. Like most Aussie bands they are EXCELLENT live.

They Should Really Market This In The U.S.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Weir (Audio CD)
It always seems that the U.S. is 6 mos. to 1 year behind when it comes to bringing artists from other countries. Well, it is a shame the Killing Heidi has not been released in the U.S. yet. The instrumentation of "Weir" is a blend of alternative and folk music that gives me goosebumps. I think it would appeal to a wide audience in the U.S. and I don't know why record companies are so adamant about exposing their artists. Take a look at Michael Learns to Rock for example.

Great new Australian music.,

Killing Heidi, who were unearthed by Triple J, are destined to go a long way with their music. Their first single Weir starts with the soft melody of acoustic guitar and violin before leading up to a power-fused chorus. The music reminds me of old times with friends and there is a certain innocence about it. But the words in the chorus are as power-fused as the music."Will you make it in the end/through all the twists and bends/will you fulfill all your dreams/not as easy as it seems. Their music and lyrics are heart-felt and simple, but in their simplicity, they come across powerfully. Watch out for them.

By itself "Weir" is a great song, although overplay tends to kill it (like any decent track). The other releases of KH are again good, but to me seem a little too similar to really get into. So I thought Killing Heidi were only semi-decent until I heard "Astral Boy", which to me more than anything proves their maturity and depth as a band. It's one thing to be able to do a particular style of song well ("Weir", "Superman/ Supergirl" etc), but to master different styles is what genuine, lasting talent is all about. "Weir" and "Astral Boy" are completely different styles of song, and I'm totally impressed by KH's ability. "Astral Boy" especially is a beautiful ballad piece: the music is haunting in its sheer simplicity, and matched only by the charm of Ella's vocals. Love the band, love the songs.

THE SONG WEIR IS A GREAT SONG FROM THE SWEET MELODIC SOUNDS OF THE VERSE TO THE HARDNESS OF THE CHORUS. THE SECOND TRACK ASTRAL BOY IS ALSO A GREAT SONG THE VOICE OF ELLA HOOPER SINGING THE SONG IS THE BEST. KILLING HEIDI HAVE JUST REALEASED THEIR SECOND SINGLE MASCARA WHICH HAS ALREADY REACHED THE TOP TEN ON MOST OF AUSTRALIAN RADIO STATIONS KILLING HEIDI ARE THE BEST BAND EVER AND WE HOPE TO HEAR MORE OF THEIR SONGS SOON THEY ALSO SING EXCELLENT LIVE SO IF THEY COME NEAR YOU I RECOMMEND YOU SEE THEM.

I am totally infatuated with this song! Every time I hear it, it stays in my head for days. It's very catchy. The best thing about it is the fact that it is performed by Australians.Let's go Aussies.
