Very entertaining clips but could use DVD features better,
By A Customer
This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
Weird Al makes some great music video parodies. I recommend that you view the original clips before seeing the parodies, and you'll appreciate his greatness. The only one I had was "Beat It" on VideoCD (sadly, Bad wasn't on the same VCD), and even though I enjoyed "Eat It" when I first viewed it, I enjoyed it even more after I saw the original clip.Al's original songs may be even better than his parodies. They are more serious, in a silly way (I find it difficult to really describe this quality). They really grew on me. I've seen the clips many times, and I'm not tired of them yet. My only gripes with this title are with its usage of the DVD format. It provides the basics - the ability to select the clip to view - but that's it. I'd have liked to see a better menu (one that doesn't force you to skip 3 pages to get to one of the later clips), lyrics as subtitles (the optional subtitles are one of the best features of DVD for music videos, IMO), and extra features, such as info about Al, his works, and the clips. There certainly isn't a problem with space on that DVD - another 2GB could easily be fitted on it without even going to double layer.

Ugh,

This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
Let's put aside how clever and hilarious Al Yankovic is, because chances are if you're here reading this review you probably already love the guy. In a nutshell. . . this DVD is pretty ugly. It's one of the lowest-quality transfers I've seen yet. It ranks way down there with Monty Python and the Holy Grail in picture clarity, but it's unacceptable here because some of the source material is only a couple years old. I would only complain about it if it detracted from the overall experience, and it most certainly does. Not that the DVD is ruined or anything. The disc contains most of Al's best work, and actually seeing the music videos makes listening to his songs much more worthwhile. I only wish they had polished the final product a little more. This thing is so bad, it plays exactly like a CD--pop it in, push play, and it immediately starts playing the videos, one after another, with not a thing between. I would have liked to see some behind the scenes stuff, or even some informative text! But there's nothing. It's disappointing when a DVD has so much potential, but the producers don't even tap into the power of the DVD format.

AS FUN AS A HUNDRED "HARVEY THE WONDER HAMSTERS",

This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
This video is very entertaining and contains a few videos that I had forgotten as well as a few I didn't even know existed. I had forgotten "Christmas at ground zero" and didn't know there was a video to "Jurassic Park". This is a MUST for any fan of the demented musician. There are more than twenty videos with such favorites as: "Fat", "UHF",and "Like a Surgeon". Also included are some of the lesser known tunes like:"You Don't Love Me Anymore", "Gump", and "One More Minute". Some of the videos have guest stars like Florence Henderson, Pat Boone, Ruth Buzzi, Dick Van Patten, and, of course, Dr. Demento; the man that helped make Al the famous man he is today. I only wish Al would make a video to every song. Well, every song except that one...

I just keep laughing!,

This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
I knew he was talented and funny, but seeing him on my television anytime I want is the best! All 21 of his videos are there on the DVD. Anytime you need a good laugh, just pop it in and get ready to smile!

Al goes best, but DVD goes worst,
By JUNGHUN YEE (Carson, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Al is the best, no doubt about it. Music Videos are so funny and the lyrics are cool. But, the DVD itself is very poor. I don't know why it isn't VHS but DVD, because its quality is so poor, there's no feature something only for DVD. Screens are *very* noisy and ugly. No subtitles, No lyrics, No supplement at all. If you don't know about Al, you will be embarrassed for absencing of any information about Al, even a simple profile or something. (But the Music Videos will makes you Al's fan, I do bet.)If you are Al's fan, this one is a essential one, but its quality can disappoint you, possibly. So don't expect too much before you get this!

Some people are never happy...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
First thing is first. Al is a god. This DVD is pretty great. It's a shame that it's getting a bad name because people are whining about it not being on VHS. And you guys call yourselves fans. Where were you when the first collection came out on VHS? Or when the Alapalooza and Bad Hair Day videos came out. You should already have these videos. And you should be watching them non stop rather than complaining because you don't have them all nice and neat on one collection. Be happy with what ya got and be satisfied by the fact that Al will make more. Never fear.

The best thing on DVD,

Weird Al made a good choice going to DVD. His DVD has all of his best music videos, such as "Amish Paradise," "Fat," and "Jurassic Park." It uses the DVD's features well, with an index of songs, which with one click, take you to it.

"Weird Al" Yankovic: The Videos,

HEY! If you're considering paying $100 for this DVD, DON'T DO IT! The videos are certainly worth watching, but by November 2003 apparently there will be a new collection. One that will be digitally remastered and everything! So, just hold off until the Christmas season to watch all of the video genius of Al. Check out the official site for the details under "Ask Al" for Sept 2nd.

Pretty Perfect!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos (DVD)
This is a great DVD, but on a few videos, the picture quality isn't that great (ex., I Lost On Jeoperdy). But, it evens out, because some of his newer on es, like Gump are very clear. There has been some contreversy over the DVD-only release. I got a DVD player on Christmas, 2001, and until then, I felt cheated. The truth is that you can find them on VH1 sometimes (so you can tape them). There also are individual Al tapes (they have a video library, containing about his first about ten (videos), then 2 or 3 more, containing about 4 each. But, those together (they have every one in this DVD, except UHF) are a couple dollars less, and very bulky. There are some Weird Al videos that I don't like that much, as I'm sure there are for all his fans. On DVD, you don't have to manually fast foreward. If they released this on VHS, all of us would wear them out (That's why I don't see why the6y don't realese them on VHS only. They'd make extra $). This contains all Weird Al's videos, except It's All About The Pentiums, and The Saga Begins (Which can be seen on Weird Al Live!, his only concert video). Weierd Al Live! and this are basically all that is in the stores, videowise, from Weird Al. There is also a complainment aboput the special features. As a big Weird Al fan, I have all his behind the Music-type-stuff already taped, but It still stinks. Anyway, I have all these old beat up, worn down, taped off telivision tapes, so the DVD is great (mainly because it won't deteriorate over the years. I have seen this DVD over 50 times! Even though it's not perfect, I love sitting back and watching all but 2 of Weird Al's videos (72 mins.). They are still entertaining and fun. So stop complaining, the price is high, but It's worth it, and the video's look and sound better than ever.

Great funny stuff!,

This is a great collection of Al's best video work - If you thought his parody songs were funny, then check out his videos - they're all here on a very convenient format - DVD. It's a great tonic after a lousy day! Get it!
