1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Book
This book contains a bunch of one liners without supporting detail. Its like reading a list of trashy book titles with zero content. It will not increase the readers knowledge base. I got it for my eight years old who love reading National Geographic Kids. She found it lacking.

The weird but true facts in the book are funnny, interesting, thought provoking, and presented in a dynamic manner with excellent illustrations. My son likes the book very very much, has memorized several of 300 weird but true facts. In fact, we have agreed to give the book away as a gift to several other children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gross but fascinating, July 4, 2010

This is not a book with a plot or anything -- just a list of random weird facts. But my 9 year old finds it FANTASTIC and has read it several times including many of them he insists on reading out loud to us! :)

My son kept us entertained all day Easter Sunday with this gift. We had to take it away during Easter dinner so we could talk about something else!

5.0 out of 5 stars This'll Perk Their Curiosity!, May 9, 2011

This is a rare case of "you CAN judge a book by its cover". Every fact presented in this entertaining and fascinating book IS weird and true. Many pages will leave the reader shaking their heads saying things like, "No way..." or just "Whoa," often wanting to learn more about the amazing statement. One often wishes there was accompanying explanations for the astounding facts, but that'll just have to be research for another day.

There are a few facts per full-color page and the graphics and design are engaging but not distracting. There are a couple of facts more gentle readers might find "gross", but they'll be largely palatable for the average elementary schooler's curious mind.

If you've got a budding explorer, scientist, adventurer, or trivia buff, this would be an excellent and entertaining way to perk their curiosity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for everyone, April 13, 2011
This review is from: Weird But True: 300 Outrageous Facts (National Geographic Kids) (Paperback)
I got this book from the library and it's so inteteresting and I promise there is no way you have heard most of these facts before. I had to buy the book. Did you know, from Earth you always look at the same side of the moon. Or, a newborn kangaroo is about as long as a paper clip. It's fun for the whole family to read together. Highly recommend and it's not crazy expensive.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, October 10, 2010
This review is from: Weird But True: 300 Outrageous Facts (National Geographic Kids) (Paperback)
My 7 year old daughter loves this book. I have a hard time getting her to read for pleasure, but this book does the trick. As other reviewers stated, it is made up of random interesting facts. There are colorful photos and the facts are written like little blurbs. She carries this book around to share with friends and family.

My 9 year old daughter is so much like me; she will read factual books all day long but put a work of fiction in front of her, and she resists. Of course as a classically educated attorney I bemoan the absence of the classics in my daughter's education, however, I am wise enough to choose my battles and for this, I am just delighted she is reading. This book she cannot put down. Constantly I hear, "OH COOL! Hey Mom! Listen to this!" Music to my ears!

5.0 out of 5 stars 9 Year Old Son Loves It!!, April 28, 2011

This review is from: Weird But True: 300 Outrageous Facts (National Geographic Kids) (Paperback)
I bought this for my 9 year old for Christmas. He absolutely loves this book, reads it all the time! There is no plot, nor is there meant to be one. Some reviews have downgraded the review because of that but i think its pretty obvious what kind of a book it is.

Books come in all styles, and as parents we all know getting our children to read ANY book is a chore. Thankfully my son loves to read and the problem in our house is finding books to challenge him! This was a whacky, fun read for him

Highly reccommend!
