Roger Manley has searched the backroads of North and South Carolina and collected a wonderfully odd collection of folk tales, ghost stories, and urban myths. Beautifully illustrated, the book covers a wide spectrum of "weird" topics ranging from UFO's to child ghosts to self-taught artists who have created their own, alternative universes. This book is a great read - it's fun, informative, and just plain weird!

Creepy! Weird Carolinas has arrived just in time for the summer season. This illustrated book was made for road trips and campfires. It's the perfect companion. The stories are scary, funny, and sometimes even moving. Folklorist writer, Roger Manley, not only knows both states like the back of his hand--but he also knows how to weave a tale and trap the poor reader in his web. I'm on my second reading.

Don't forget to pack the book and a flashlight!

Weird Carolinas is an intelligent and humorous look at a neglected side of Carolina history. Physically, it's a beautiful book with a clear and sumptuous lay-out of photographs, by the author and from the archives. It is a lively and idiosyncratic travel book--and it's educational!

I have purchase this as well as the "Weird USA" book and love them both. The author's theory on "every small town has a tale" is so true and it is neat to see them in print. I plan on buying more of the "Weird...." books.
