4.0 out of 5 stars Should be titled "Weird Virginia/DC"
My husband and I have been reading Weird NJ for about five years now and have even taken a week-long trip to NJ to see some of the weirdness for ourselves, so we were excited when Weird Virginia was published. I really liked the book, but wished there was more stuff from Northern Virginia included, and less stuff from Washington DC. Every time we turned a page there was...

Wrong item was sent. Seller did send refund. Was very rude when I posted my earlier review. Will not deal with seller again.

Every time we turned a page there was something about Capitol Hill or Adams Morgan. DC IS NOT VIRGINIA!!!! Maybe Virginia by itself is just not weird enough **sigh**.

4.0 out of 5 stars Midgetville update, March 17, 2009
This review is from: Weird Virginia: Your Travel Guide to Virginia's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets (Hardcover)
So far, I'm quite enjoying this book. Having lived in the area all of my life, it's interesting to find out about odd things quite literally in your back yard that you knew nothing about.

I am sad to report however, that the area knows as "Midgetville" in Vienna, VA has (in the last ~6 months) in fact been bulldozed and turned into new homes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun book, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Weird Virginia: Your Travel Guide to Virginia's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets (Hardcover)
This is a fun book. It did not have a couple of things I was looking for, but it DID have many things I hadn't thought about in Virginia.
I ordered the book to give to my son in college for Christmas as a laugh, but I ended up reading almost the whole thing myself! I am going to order another copy to give as yet another gift for someone else.

This was a great book that taught many new things about Virginia that I didn't know. Many of the stories are funny and weird, very true to the title.

Great gift to give someone who lives in the state. Gives an insight into the "happenings" around the state.

I have lived in Virginia for 40 of my 48 years and I never knew that my state has so many oddities! My husband and I have taken many 'day' trips to see things featured in this book. Great coffee table book for light reading. Someday, I would LOVE to have the entire collection for my library.

This is a wonderful, funny book about nothing and everything. Being Virginia born and bred, so much of this content is familiar and interesting. A great book for the coffee table.

My kids have loved all of the weird, interesting information found in this book. This book reminds me of the old television show,"In Search Of" only in a book version about Virginia. Maybe even a Virginia edition of the Time Life series, "Mysteries of the Unexplained".

This is a great book that lets the imagination and brain run wild with possibilities.

As Einstein said, "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious".

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read for the whole family, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Weird Virginia: Your Travel Guide to Virginia's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets (Hardcover)
I had bought this for myself, and was surprised find my kids
were fascinated by the pictures and stories, too.

The book brought back memeories of being taken to see Midgetville by a high school friend.
Those teeny, tiny houses somewhere off a back road in Vienna were an odd site, but I never could find them again, on my own.

Weird Virginia is fun to read, and to bring along when traveling.
