5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids! December 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Every kid I know loves learning about animals, and mine are no exception. I'm not sure who enjoyed this book more; me or my boys.

I was pleasantly suprised to see that most of the animals were unfamiliar me. We all learned quite a bit, and the pictures were great! My kids cracked up when they saw the schnoz on that Probiscis monkey in the first chapter. After that, they had to see the rest of the book. Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Short, Sweet, but Satisfying! February 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love reading about animals and therefore this short book satisfies and informs of some pretty cool creatures. Since I read the Kindle Fire edition, I decided to only give it a three star because the video links that accompanied each animal took much to long to load and play from the YouTube sites. I tested the YouTube Videos 'directly' from the same reader and they loaded much faster, so I assume the time differences were the "middle-guy" links from the book. Hey, three out of five ain't bad. The book is a good little read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Home Schooling - Very Entertaining December 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My kids love nature and I'm always looking for ways to make their home learning more fun. I saw this book and thought what the heck, lets take a look. I really thought I knew a lot about nature. I have ead enough and watched enough Animal Planet to think that I would know most of these animals but that the kids would still learn something.

I was really surprised. I think I might have seen 1 or 2 before but the rest were completely new to me. Some of the information provided about them was really entertaining and fascinating.

I really enjoyed this little book and I think you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars How cool is this book? March 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this book with my 8-year-old grandson on my pc so we could enjoy both the color pictures in the book and the links to videos of the different animals. We were fascinated to see platypi swimming in their natural environment. Our lives will never be the same after encountering the blobfish! This book and its linked videos are a treasure of unique animals. We loved reading it, and watching the videos, and even drawing some of the animals later. We will definitely re-read this one!

Children will absolutely love this book! The photos are large and clearly identified; the text is written with wry humor. The narrative explains what is so unique about each animal; although the photo usually gives the reader a clear indication.

I don't think I can say enough about the photos; many Kindle books about animals offer few photos that are often the size of postage stamps. Not here; the images are full color, covering much of the screen and are very clear.

As an added bonus, there is a video available for each of these strange animals. Depending on the device and location, it may not be available all of the time.

The author does a wonderful job of explaining an animal's body size by comparing it to: A 3 year-old child; putting three cars together, bumper to hood, etc. Indicating that an animal is 3 feet tall probably doesn't mean much, but comparing it to something in the child's experience adds to their understanding.

Both adults and children will love this book; children will re-read it many times. Bravo!
