Product Description

Amazon.com Review

By generating ultrasonic sound waves, this battery-operated device repels dogs, cats, skunks, opossums, raccoons, and armadillos from yard or garden. It's humane, an alternative to traps, poisons, and chemicals. The device is motion-activated, automatically sending out sound waves when a pest is detected within an area of up to 4,000 square feet, and operates for up to six months on four D-cell batteries (not included). A knob adjusts sound-wave generation to one of seven different levels (from 14,000 to 26,000 Hz), depending on the pests present. (A guide on the back matches settings to pests.) Though lower-range sound waves might be detected by pets and humans, they are not harmful. The weather-resistant device is encased in rugged plastic and measures 6-3/4 by 4-3/4 by 3-1/4 inches. It mounts on a flat surface or on a pole. Mounting brackets for both are included. The device carries a two-year warranty against defects.--Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for repelling racoons from small ponds, August 14, 2002
By
Brian "jazzy69" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weitech 0051 Yard and Garden Protector, Battery Powered (Lawn & Patio)
I am the only homeowner in my area that does not own a dog. All the neighborhood cats and racoons have come to realize this and have regular parties in my two small ponds. I guess the ponds make for a fabulous jacuzzi. After they are done partying in my backyard, they like to leave me little gifts too.

If you're reading this, then you know that scented repellants don't work or racoons have recently eaten your pond fish. But I can tell you that the Weitech transonic repellers do work. I found that I need to operate more than one at different angles. The motion sensor has a very short range and the racoons will figure that out. So I operate a 0049-A on AC power continously and this model (0051) on motion sensor at the other side on my patio. I can see tracks and debris indicating that racoons have come into my yard. BUT, they didn't get to the ponds!

P.S. The frequency for larger pest like racoons is audible to people with sensitive hearing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!, May 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Weitech 0051 Yard and Garden Protector, Battery Powered (Lawn & Patio)
All I can say is you'd better by one of these for every 20 degrees of coverage you need. The motion sensor has a very narrow and sporadic band of activation coverage, such that you almost have to walk directly in front of it. Sometimes it will trigger and sometimes it won't. If it can't sense a 6ft. human I don't have high hopes for it being able to sense a little ground critter. Range isn't all that great either; about 30-40 feet. Lastly when I forced it to go off, none of the squirrels or birds near me seemed to react at all. A total waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Basically Worthless, December 28, 2002
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Weitech 0051 Yard and Garden Protector, Battery Powered (Lawn & Patio)
This device was basically worthless in my opinion for my needs and also of cheap construction. I was going to use it primarily for squirrels, which did not work. Also, I found the unit not very sensitive and its sensitivity was erratic as to consistently detecting anything in its line of sight including myself.

I discussed these units with a pest control expert who said generally they are best for manufactures but not customers. I have had two other units like this in the past and came to the same conclusion as did the pest control experts I consulted. I returned it for a refund.

I would recommend anyone buying this unit do so with caution. It might work well for your particular needs, but I was very disappointed in its performance and seeming lack of quality construction and components.

My recommendation would be to buy it and try it, you might find it works perfectly for your needs. I always like to give products the benefit of a good try, but don't be disappointed if the results do not meet your expectations. It appears that for certain types of situations some folks have had good success.
