Book Description

April 2002
Leo Madigan Artistic Danny Mago gets a new job at the St. Martin de Porres Convent with Mother Madeleine, the famous Maori painter, and he approaches the ancient, unused elevator on the Convent grounds, the uneventful tenor of his life takes a decided turn…upwards! The resulting wild adventures become strangely entangled with the quest that has brought beautiful Zelia Mazloum from Turkey to New Zealand. In the midst of all this, Danny accepts a call to make a unique contribution to his home, the land that rests upon the seas, Aetearoa. Demonic creatures, angelic beings, sly villains, an old and beautiful weka-feather cloak, a blank wall in a new Cathedral and an unforgettable Maori nun come together in this amazing tale of spirit and laughter.

This review is from: The Weka-Feather Cloak: A New Zealand Fantasy (Paperback)
Start with a shy young boy artist. Enter a old artist-nun, a beautiful young girl, a new cathedral and an amazing discovery. Set this all down in New Zealand and what do you get? This wonderful book.
Danny Mago is just a shy young 10th-grader who loves art. He gets hired at the local convent, and the mother-superior (Mother Madeline), a famous artist, takes him under her wing. He makes an amazing discovery in the convent gardens, which leads him to many new ideas for his paintings. He makes friends with a beautiful new girl in his class, Zelia, who is working on solving a puzzle that her family has tried to solve for years. Through many twists and turns of the story, Danny and Zelia become even closer as they solve the puzzle of the Mandylion.
