Editorial Reviews

A few words from Premo: In the days that we are living, in this very moment, we purists of true music are witnessing the decline of the so-called major label. Another shift in the Matrix must come with medicine to heal the wounds of negativity... I, DJ Premier along with my partner Gordon Franklin, are here to bring all of you a label that you can depend on for credible music. The name of that label is Year Round Records, and it does just that. First out are the NYGz (pronounced EN-Why-Geez). It stands for New York Giantz which we all know cannot be used, but the name represents all of the above. The new album called "Welcome 2 G-Dom" provides the street landscape of skills from the Underground Hip Hop sound. MCs Panchi and Shabeeno drop it down like no other in this flooded pool of nonsense. The lead single (also available from Traffic Ent.) "Ya Dayz R #'d" backed with "N.H.B." and "What Kinda Life" sets the platform for the dependability we are bringing. Thanx to all the producers on this album: Emile, Kingdom, Thorotracks, Harlem Fatz and Biggest Gord... and of course me, for another job well done. Engineered by the legendary King Of Chill (MC Lyte, Audio Two, Alliance), you know you re getting nothing but Class "A" Hip Hop. The only way I can close out this one sheet is to say we live by our motto, "you get what you pay for"... Enjoy the album! -DJ Premier

Dope album with alot of bangers. Was hoping for better production on the blaq poet collabo track "Bow Down" but its cool non the less. "Giantz Ta this" is a certified classic! Dj Premier and Year Round Records may prove to be one of the only forces keeping this hip hop thing alive! Much respect for that! "Same Team No Games" on the Gangstarr "The Ownerz" album was enough for me to start respecting and paying attention to the NYGz. Primo! Drop more dope @#%@ soon, we need it out here !!!!!!

Technically this is supposed to be a mixtape but feels more like a full fledged freshman debut. This album, to me, is the most solid hip hop album of the year. Premier chose this duo to represent the first he has to offer on his new record label Year Round Records. With production from Primo, thorotracks, Emile, Harlem Fatz and Kingdom the beats will not disappoint. These two "G'z" rep the streets of NY hardcore backed by the likes of Fizzy Womack, Rave, Blaq Poet among many others. Panchi and Sha are true NYG'z and you will not be mad if you buy this first effort. My Favorite track is Bullseye followed by 3 Man Weave. This CD has not left my top 5 rotation in my car since I got it the day it was released.

Why is there only 4 reviews for this joint!? I mean this CD is off the hook! It reminds me a lot of MOP's Warriors, which is all good with me. Not totally the sound of it, but the hype you get when you listen to it. That joint Giantz ta Thiz (with the sample of Ain't No Nigga) is straight fire! This joint is highly recommended for any real Hip Hop listeners collection. I'm keeping my ear for more from these cats.

Is Shock G underrated or a gimmick?
Me and my cousin were talking about this tonight. I can't remember what song, but he spit once in his normal voice. Dude is a monster! But many MC's are underrated and underappreciated.
