Book Description

July 25, 2011
Advent is a season almost forgotten by the secular world. With new toys and electronics available, why should we focus on this time of anticipation? Most everyone cannot wait for Christmas morning to arrive, but is it for the right reason? Sarah A. Reinhard designed Welcome Baby Jesus for you and your family to capture some of what's intended by the liturgical season of Advent. Each day has a Scripture quote from the Sunday gospel readings, a brief reflection, and an action to complete. With each passing Sunday, your Advent Wreath will grow brighter, your family's faith will grow stronger, and the true meaning of this season will be discovered.

From the Author

This booklet is designed to help you and your family capture some of what's intended by the liturgical season of Advent. Each day has a Scripture quote, a brief reflection, and an action to complete.

What I hope you gain from this booklet is an appreciation of Advent. Do as much--or as little--as you can each day.

May your Advent be blessed this year, and may your Christmas be better for the preparation you do during Advent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cherish the Advent and Christmas Seasons August 12, 2011
Format:Paperback
Sarah Reinhard's wonderful new book Welcome Baby Jesus has me literally counting the days until the Advent season. For too many families, Advent is simply the series of shopping and party opportunities leading up to a holiday that has become increasingly commercialized. And for too many moms, it's also a time of seemingly endless "to do" lists, too many commitments, and a void of meaningful prayer time as we seek to cope with all of the busyness.

Sarah Reinhard has given families a gift in the form of this wonderful little book. In truth, sometimes even Advent resources can feel like just another "to do" item for busy families, but this terrific book has been specifically designed to help your family cherish and recapture the joy of the Advent season. Designed with the interests and attention spans of little ones in mind, the book covers Advent and also continues into the important Christmas season. Each day's entry features scripture, prayer aids, a lovely reflection and a tangible activity your family can easily do together. Sundays get special treatment, as do those important days of the Christmas season.

I highly recommend this book for families, for teachers, for those who work in ministry with children, and even for adults who simply want to recapture some of the childlike wonder that rightly should accompany a season when we prepare to welcome the Christ child. Give your family a gift before the season begins, and then purchase several extra copies to give to family and friends. You will find that this is a gift that will keep on giving long after the last Advent candle is lit, as your family grows closer to Christ, to their faith and to one another with Sarah's gentle guidance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Advent Book for the Entire Family! July 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
Sarah Reinhard's new book, Welcome Baby Jesus: Advent and Christmas Reflections for Families, takes a refreshing, unique approach to Advent.

There are many children's Advent/Christmas books out there, but this delightful book includes activities and reflections for the entire family.

From the author: "Advent is a season that's almost forgotten by the secular world. You'll find Advent calendars, to be sure, but they are really an adornment for the "Christmas season," which begins sometime after Halloween and ends on Christmas Day."

Each section encompasses three different activities: Think, Pray and Act. Each Sunday has its own theme. The First Sunday of Advent and the week following is "Get Ready." The Second Sunday and following week is "Repent." The Third Sunday's theme is "Love," and the fourth Sunday, "Anticipate." The Christmas season has its own theme:" Rejoice." There are also stories and activities for the Feast of the Epiphany.

What sets this apart from other Advent preparation books is that it has reflections and activities for the entire family (parents included) so that both parent and child can prepare for the celebration of Christ's birth.

It may be months away, but Sarah Reinhard's beautifully designed book is ideal for those families who wish to embrace the true meaning of Christmas and to grow closer to Christ. I highly recommend this wonderful book to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Catholic families! September 4, 2011
Format:Paperback
Author Sarah Reinhard believes that Baby Jesus is the "biggest reason for our [Christmas] celebration." She says in her Introduction, "Everything else is secondary to the arrival of our Messiah."

"Welcome Baby Jesus" is an exceptional Advent resource for today's Catholic families. The booklet is based on Scripture, but easy to understand, delightfully decorated, and filled with exercises designed to draw the family together and closer to Jesus. What a perfect resource to use and to give as a gift to families you know prior to the holy season of Advent.
