5.0 out of 5 stars Love Song - Forever Excellent!
This is a super recording! I had the great personal blessing of experiencing "Love Song" as a group in live concert - many times - many years ago. The fresh background instrumental arrangements to the classic Love Song repertoire and collection of selections only enhances what was already Divinely-inspired musical genius, bringing it all into our present...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's just too bad
It's too bad that this group had to remake all these songs
in eighties elevator style. If you were into Jesus Rock in
the early seventies when Love Song made their original two
albums (including many of the same songs), you might say
that the technical sound quality is
better, but for me the soul is all gone.

This is a super recording! I had the great personal blessing of experiencing "Love Song" as a group in live concert - many times - many years ago. The fresh background instrumental arrangements to the classic Love Song repertoire and collection of selections only enhances what was already Divinely-inspired musical genius, bringing it all into our present contemporary time frame. The "original" Love Song members' voices are as fine as ever, and the mood and tone is wonderfully and powerfully every bit reminiscent of their original and Eternal sound. A very fine album indeed, and one that will touch anyone's heart - whether an old fan, as I am, or that of a newer and younger listener as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Release from Love Song, June 3, 2011

There are many of us out there that remember the days back at the former Maranatha Village site, when Love Song first blessed our spirits and hearts with their God inspired songs. Flashing back from Knotts Berry Farms Maranatha nights, Calvary Chapel Concerts on Saturdays, to now has truly been a wonderful journey. The best is yet to come. This is a wonderful reissue, with some new material. Sounds fresh. Hope I do not offend my Love Song brothers, but you and I have all aged a bit....but Chuck looks the same on the picture on the back of the CD. God Bless You Brothers. In Agape, Don Viray

I agree that I liked the original version better, but it's still ok. The words are annointed and still touch my heart where a lot of today's christian music doesn't. If they put out another album that was more like the original i would buy it. HINT HINT!!

Good remake of the original. So glad I got it.Makes me feel like I am back at Calavary Chapel (Little Church) again like in the 70's with Chuck G. and the guys (Love Song),Lonnie Frisbee, Greg Laurie and Chuck Smith and just feeling the spirit of Jesus all around, it is like having my personal Time Machine......

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential album to understanding contemporary Christian musi, March 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome Back (Audio CD)
This is one of the first contemporary Christian music albums ever released, and both the band and the album have had an influence out of all proportion to the length of time they were together. (Until the reunion album, which Amazon.com also carries, Love Song had only produced one other album, Final Touch, before breaking up.) Probably the best known, most often "covered" track on the album is "Little Country Church." The sound is what I privately term "California are tight, the music is toe-tapping, and the lyrics are clear. If you want to understand the history of CCM, you must have this album

3.0 out of 5 stars It Served It's Purpose Prior To The Re-release Of The Originals, March 20, 2011
This review is from: Welcome Back (Audio CD)
Only recently have the original albums been re-mastered and re-issued by Love Song and Chuck Girard in a custom box set. Prior to that, those first two albums had been haphazardly released on non-remasterd CDs by the man who owned the mater tapes. They were not very good sounding and only a few were issued.

So after many years of not playing together, and inspired by their getting together for the First Love documentary, they decided to "make available" all the songs from the first two Love Song albums. But not having access to the original tapes, the only way to do so was to re-record those songs. In an interview, Chuck Girard said that because it had been so long since they had played together, and there was no time (?) to rehearse to get their chops back, they instead hired a group of studio musicians, played the old albums for them, and had them "knock off" their own arrangements in the studio of the original songs, but in a more contemporary style. Okay.

The result is Welcome Back, the album. I would have to argue with Chuck about the style being more contemporary. To me it could be called updated MOR music but contemporary? Here's a different statement on the re-recording from Chuck's website:

"This album brings together the founding members of LOVE SONG, to re-record these songs 25 years after the success of the original albums. We felt that these songs had meant so much to so many people in the '70s, that they deserved another chance to bless the lives of a new generation. We wanted to change the musical approach to the songs, so we hired a team of crack studio players, played them the old versions, and let them spin the music tracks off in a more '90s direction. We then put our vocals on with an ear to the new tracks, which brought a freshness to the old sound. I think we truly succeeded in contemporizing these songs without losing the essence of what made them great songs in the first place." ~ Chuck Girard ~

If you are a completest, you may want to go ahead and get this album as it is pleasant enough to listen to more than once. But now that Love Song has released all of their original albums in a custom box set, it may seem redundant, especially since the originals are far superior in most people's minds.
