FIVE Reasons to buy this book,
By
This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
Welcome to College is an outstanding work! As wise as it is current. Here are FIVE reasons why you should buy this book today.
1. Relevant. Welcome to College is focused on college students--on their concerns, on their needs, and on this pivotal time of their lives. But it is not just a book for college students. It is for anyone who knows, interacts with, teaches, ministers to, parents, or is involved with college students (or college age folks). Welcome to College is a worthy read, no matter your age. 2. Accessible. These chapters come out of a life lived. They are practical, thought out, lived out insights into a Christian life. Not just Jonathan's life, but all of those he's served, worked with, and befriended--a vast number of whom are college students. He's lived this stuff. 3. Diverse subjects. Welcome to College synthesizes subject matter normally not found together. Practical `how to's' like how to deal with syllabus shock, bad roommates, alcohol use and abuse, are combined with intellectual challenges that many young people face on campuses like how Christianity and Science relate and what sort of things we can actually know to be true. Not to mention questions of Christian spirituality, like how to come to know God's will, how become more like Jesus, and Biblical man and womanhood. This is a timely handbook. 4. Great resource. Jonathan has thought through these many issues to provide a ready reference for the most common questions, concerns, and difficulties a college student will face. But knowing that every person is unique and generally will need more of one thing than another, he also provides an abundance of suggested readings and resources (internet and other) if one desires to dig more deeply into any of these issues. 5. This book is an integrated expression of a Christian worldview and a great gift to the next generation of Christendom.

Perfect for a variety of audiences,
By
This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
Obviously this is written for Christian students entering a secular university, but its uses extend well beyond that narrow audience. Anyone who struggles with one or more of the plethora of topics listed in the Table of Contents will find that chapter insightful, concise, accessible, and practical. There are always discussion questions and suggested further reading, if one wants to go deeper into that subject.
I strongly recommend this book for the above reasons, and also because it's obvious that Mr. Morrow has a strong grasp on such a diversity of subjects, both intellectually and existentially. Very few people could write a book with this wide a swath and do it well -- Morrow is one.

Great and much needed book!,

This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
This is a great insight into college life for a Christian student. It's written from a "I've been there" perspective and really hits home for those of us still in college. Highly recommend for anyone going into or in college, especially if you have any questions on what it means to be a Christian in an environment where the right answer is not always clear. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Defenders of the Faith,
By
This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
Fresh out of High School and that last summer break, you pack up your child and send them out into the world. You have had 18ish years to prepare them for the world, and now you send them out into it. Your biggest concern is for their safety and that maybe they will call home now and again.
But what about their faith? Have you, your church and their youth group been enough? Are they strong enough? Do they know where to find the answers? Do you? How do they deal with the first "God is dead" statement they hear from a professor? Morrow provides a handy and engaging resource for just this dilemma. Designed not just for full reading but also a flash-point resource, the book is packed with Godly wisdom, practical advice and "been there, done that" experiences. For situations that demand more information he provides a wealth of resources for further exploration and the end of each chapter as well as a synopsis of each chapter for quick review. Written for the new college student this book has value for anyone who has ever been stymied, stifled, cajoled, ridiculed or ostracized for trying to defend the faith. It will be even of greater value for those who don't even know were to start. It is a magnificent work in helping you to think Christianly, live Godly, build your faith and defend God and his word.

A college minister review,

This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
This is being typed quickly because my day is chaotic at the moment :) But, overall, it's a
homerun! I work with Campus Crusade for Christ so it is very pertinent to my work. I read it quickly and enjoyed it personally very much. I think it's very applicable because it is readable and covers many topics. Students today have very short attention spans. I think your book answers and instructs very well. For many, it will also invite deeper study and be an appetizer for topics they've overlooked and/or been passive about. I like that you've included the Big Ideas section after each chapter. That's different. I also like the font, layout, bullet points, and numbering. I think that it is graphically more inviting to a generation like this. It's such a refreshment from text heavy, theologically stuffy books. I can tell you know your stuff, don't flaunt it, but instead have a compassionate and instructing tone.

The one book college students won't want to return!,

This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
Every high school senior should have this book in their hands before they enter college! I wish I had this book a long time ago! The chapters are suprisingly short, but packed with so much information to prepare them for what they will face in the future. The theology is solid, the advice is practical, and the resources give the student extra information. The study guide in the back makes this book useful for individual and small group use.

One look at the "Table of Contents" of this book will tell you it covers lots of ground, from the fundamentals of the Christian faith and healthy biblical thinking to how to live accordingly in regards to real life issues such as sexuality, money and alcohol. I am truly amazed at the amount of content that Jonathon packed into each short yet understandable chapter. I am going to use this book as the guide to take a number of high schoolers and early college age youth through a several week study that will leave them with a tool that will have value for years to come, even after their college experience is complete. Two things that make this book even more valuable is the the "Big Idea" section at the end of each chapter which hits the main few points of the chapter, additionally in the "For Further Discovery" sections Jonathon gives us a list of some of the best books in each area for deeper study if one would chose. This is very valuable as one grows in their Christian walk. It is my opinion every college age person should read and study this book whether in a group or as a self study. As a bonus I think this book has value as a foundational book for anyone who comes to faith in Jesus because more than 2/3's is of value to all ages, 15-75, who want to "think Christianly".

Outstanding Resource for Students!,
By
This review is from: Welcome to College: A Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey (Paperback)
Welcome to College gives an overview of how an eighteen year old should be prepared for college. I just started reading this book and I can guarantee that I'm going to start recommending this book to seniors in high school! Jonathan Morrow does an excellent job covering a wide range of subjects from, the problem of evil and suffering to God's existence, to time management and health issues, to dating in college. Morrow gives great practical advice to college boys to act like men by becoming pure like Christ, taking initiative in relationships while rejecting being passive. He encourages ladies to pursue real beauty, go against the grain and to become of woman of God's word! Morrow has done his research and he's not afraid to confront the culture. I wish someone would have giving me this book when I was a senior in high school or freshman in college. It would have challenged me to think critically about some things that really matter. Morrow doesn't give unrealistic "churchy" expectations, nor does he try to be overly "hip" like many annoying 30 something emergent guys trying to act cute for college students. Morrow treats college students as adults with realistic expectations to pursue Christ with both heart and mind. Purchase a copy for the high school senior or college student that you love and want to succeed!

I bought this as a gift for a girl who is heading off to college. I didn't read it, but did skim through it. It covers many issues a student will face on that journey; I think it should be very helpful.
