Down with the dc Talk!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome To The Freak Show: DC Talk Live In Concert (Audio CD)
Welcome to the Freakshow is a fantastic live album by the phenomenal group dc Talk. Kicking the concert off with Help then sliding into So Help Me God is a perfect match! They blast the album shut with a slightly different version of Jesus Freak sending screaming fans wild. But what does dc Talk pack in the middle of this CD? Hit song after hit song! Delivering brilliant rock, rap, and alternative to the stage and for us to our CD player. Turn the volume up a little louder when your playing this album and you'll instantly feel a part of the cheering crowd. Best of all dc Talk aren't afraid to say "Jesus is Still Alright" like so many other artist. They've never shaken off their Christian name and never will. If you are a dc Talk and missing Welcome to the Freakshow you are making a major mistake! Even if you are not a dc Talk fan this album is essential to anyone's album collection! You won't be rocking until you have dc Talk playing!

dc Talk at their best live,
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome To The Freak Show: DC Talk Live In Concert (Audio CD)
This is the best Christian rock cd that I have ever heard. dc Talk is great live. Their vocals are just as good as a studio album and the music is even better. This is a must for any dc Talk fan. Even though it's CHristian, this band can hold it's own against any secular band. That's why so many songs from JesusFreak and Supernatural have made their way onto secular radio. If you have the JesusFreak cd, the versions of those songs are 10 times better live. On this album Mind's Eye, Day by Day, What if I Stumble, and So Help Me God blow away the studio version. And Jesus is Just ALright and The Hardway are much better than the original recordings. If you're looking for an excellent cd full of positive lyrics about Christ look no further.

Welcome to the Freak Show is an awesome album. It has a variety of styles including rap, rock, and contemporary. It includes a great remake of The Beatles 'Help'. It is a must have for any DC Talk fan. I believe that even any non fan would enjoy this album. It is really sensational.

More to every song (spc. Longer Endings and Better Drumming),

DC Talk shows how to make a live album worth while. What makes LATFS a great value is that DC Talk vastly extends the endings of many of the songs, with lots of passionate vocal improvisation (especially on Mind's Eye, which, for all you English Lit buffs, is an allusion to Act I, Scene II of Shakespeare's Hamlet). Also, (as highlighted on In The Light and Colored People) the drumming is a lot more complex, which at least for me, the one major thing missing from most Christian Music. Consequently analogous LATFS DVD is hands down the greatest live DVD of all time.
What makes up for the omitted songs on the DVD is that there are behind the scenes segments, interviews, and additional music videos of Just Between You And Me, Colored People, and Jesus Freak (2 different mu. vids., 3 versions in all). What it boils down to is that DC Talk is much better live than they are on their albums. Also, Kevin Max Smith especially steps up his vocals. This album deserves its Grammy Award.
What may have made the songs What if I Stumble and The Hardway more powerful would have been if Kevin had explained that those songs were inspired by his mistake (I will not give details) and that God forgave him and gave him a second chance. That's only a small gripe on my part, but this is still the best Christian Music has offered the world so far.
If you are into the DC Talk's albums Jesus Freak and Free At Last (the two studio albums LATFS got it's material from), you will probably also enjoy:
Steven Curtis Chapman (Speechless and Signs of Life),
Burlap to Cashmere (Anybody out There),
Delirious (Cutting Edge, King of Fools, Live in a Can, Mezzamorphosis, Glow, Audio Lessonover),
P.O.D. (Satellite and Fundamental Elements of Southtown),
Mozart (Piano Concertos),
T-Bone (Life of a Hoodlum, Last Street Precha),
Kirk Franklin and the Family (Whacha Lookin 4, Self Titled Debut, Stomp, Revolution, Rebirth),
Jars of Clay (Self Titled Debut, Much Afraid),
Lauren Hill (The Misseducation of Lauren Hill),
Michelle Tumes (Center of My Universe, Listen),
Lifehouse (No Name Face),
Jaci Velasquez (Heavenly Place, Self Titled Second Album),
Third Day (Time),
Anointed (The Call, Self Titled Second Album),
Earthsuit (Kaleidoscope Superior),
Hillsong (By My Side),
Michael W. Smith (80s and 90s, His Worship Albums),
Bebo Norman (Myself When I Am Real),
Newsboyz (Take Me To Your Leader), and
Switchfoot (Legend of Chin, New Way To Be Human, Learning to Breathe, Beautiful Letdown).
Finally, if you want to know more about the Jesus who inspired all of this music, you are welcome to ask me questions at MatthewShell@hotmail.com, check out my site geocities.com/srtdm, or better yet, get a copy of the Bible and read it. I pray that God help you find friends to be accountable to, who will be blessing, and be there for you in those hard times. Life in Jesus is not about religion but rather a spiritual relationship with Him and other believers, so that you can be empowered to change the world for the better, just as DC Talk did.
To all you cynics, no matter what you say about DC Talk, you have to admit that they made Christian music cool to kids around the world. In so doing, DC Talk positively touched the lives of 100s of millions of people for Jesus and inspired a generation of young believers to be bold in their belief in Jesus. That's a big impact if you ask me, and we can do even more with Jesus on our side. God bless.

Hey! Are you still wondering whether not to buy this album? Well..wonder no longer. I would recommend this CD before any other! The lyrics shout out "JESUS"! DC Talk is not afraid to take an extra step to express their faith. This is a great album for the whole family to enjoy. It's rock, rap and contemporary tunes will have you singing along for hours. Along with the more "up beat" songs, there are also some more mellow songs, which I like just as well. "What if I stumble" is a perfect example. It shows how the band is humble enough to admit that they, too will sometimes fall. The band does a great job in choosing the right song for the right time in the CD. I think their live performance is MUCH better than their studio performance...and that is GOOD! I love how they gave some of the old songs, such as "Luv is a verb" "Time is..." "Walls" "Jesus is just alright" and others, a mojor facelift! (And don't worry! It was for the better) I could go on and on about this album and this band, but I guess I have a limit. But I will say this...this CD is SIMPLY A MUST! -Hey! Do ya wanna know more about this CD and Band members?

A Near-Perfect CD,

As far as I'm concerned, Welcome to the Freakshow is the best CD in existence. I don't see how it's possible to acheive a more perfect blend of music than this. With explosive hits like Walls and Time Is, and slower tunes like What If I Stumble, there's a song for everyone. It is also important to notice that throughout the concert they deliver powerful messages. The intro to Colored People was fantastic. This CD will make a Jesus Freak out of you. Why are you still reading this? Go buy it! You won't regret it.

I've seen many concerts from many different acts in various genres but none can hold a candle to dc Talk. When you take that stage performance and great songs you come up with this cd and the live video that is also sold. The stage presence comes across on the cd the same way a smile comes across on a telephone. You can't see the smile, but you can hear it in the voice. One of my favorite songs on this cd is a 'new' version of The Hardway. It's different than you've heard on an earlier studio album and I think much better. With live albums one of the fears is usually the sound quality and the crowd noise. This particular cd has great sound quality and only has crowd noise when applicable. If you're a fan of dc Talk buy this cd and the video of them live in concert - I guarantee you'll thoroughly enjoy them both.

...do not agree with A music fan from San Marcos, California. How can you disagree with a CD that has saved thousands. It is people like you who ruin Christian music. For gosh sakes, its a concert, what do you expect to hear after every song, the mission impossible theme? I is an AWESOME cd. And you obviously do not have a clue what Christian music is about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
