On "Galaxy High School", June 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Galaxy High [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This classic retro-80's cartoon is a fond memory of my childhood. With memorable characters and entertaining episode plots, this is one of my favorite cartoons of all-time. The main characters, Doyle and Amy, undergo new experiences at the intergalactic exchange school, Galaxy High. Doyle, the popular jock at his high school, becomes alienated at this new location, whereas Amy, the wallflower of her high school, is respected and becomes a success. Doyle becomes friends with Milo, the six armed class president. He also gets picked on by Beef, the school bully and his gang. Amy, on the other hand, becomes friends with Booey, Gilda, and Wendy. Each episode teaches a lesson about helping friends out and doing the right thing. The diversity of characters and the creativeness of the artists and writers make this fantastic memory of the 80's worth seeing again today.

Take a trip to Galaxy High..., February 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Galaxy High [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I love this cartoon...I watched the VHS release when I was a grade-schooler but could barely remember it. About a year ago I decided I wanted to try to re-watch it. Much to my dismay this tape and pretty much anything about Galaxy High had became obscure. It's too bad this show will never see the light of day again, I love it. The show tells about two students, Doyle Cleverlobe and Aimee Brightower, from Earth who attend a high school in space called Galaxy High and the adventures they have. The show obviously didn't work because it was canceled after only 13 episodes in 1986, but nonetheless its still a fun watch. Its got good humor, stories and memorable characters like Beef Bonk the mean bully always complaining 'Earth stinks' or Booey Bubblehead the kind yet air-headed alien girl and Professor Icenstein, the teacher who melts if he gets below 32 degrees. I love the overall animation and music, it just screams late 80's and brings back the nostalgia of my old cartoon days. Those who cannot stand the 80's would probably find most of the design and music too 80's-ish, especially the music since its all synth-ish. Hats off to Don Felder who composed the incredible opening song and the in-show music as well. I love it all. This particular tape release is sadly the only home video release Galaxy High ever saw. It contains four great eps, which I'll review just for fun: Welcome To Galaxy High: (8/10) Of course this is the first episode, its only essential or you wouldn't understand how Doyle and Aimee got to Galaxy High. A fun episode as Aimee and Doyle get acquainted with all the strange and new things in their new alien school. Quite a memorable episode, great animation. Pizza's Honor: (9/10) Doyle delivers pizza to a creepy planet called Tingler and Beef Bonk and his gang decide to follow him there to scare him even more. Funny episode, great music. The Beef Who Would Be King: (8/10) Beef and Doyle are still rivals and end up participating in a race to see who'll be king of a planet full of pudgy aliens. Beef ends up becoming king but Aimee and Doyle find out Beef is in danger and must go to rescure him. Another amusing episode. Beach Blanket Blow-Up: (8.5/10) This episode stuck with me since I used to watch it as a kid. The first three episodes are in numberical order (1-3), but this is the eighth episode. Considering all the other eps, this was a good fourth to include. Doyle discovers that the vacationing spot where all his classmates are is going to be destroyed by a supernova. Great episode, some light suspense too. In closing, Galaxy High will always be a memorable show to me. It saddens me it died off so quickly, would have loved to see more than 13 eps. I'm not sure what your preferences are in cartoons, but if you like sci-fi, 80's cartoons with good humor get this tape if you can.
