4.0 out of 5 stars delightful, December 7, 2009

There are a couple of odd things about this CD. Although part of the Arabesque catalog, that company apparently now only offers mp3 downloads, or on-demand CD-Rs manufactured by Amazon. Secondly, the names of the composers aren't listed anywhere on the packaging. Nevertheless these are beautiful performances of several very lovely pieces of music. Although the the composers are 20th century or contemporary, there is none of the atonality, dissonance, anger, or despair typically associated with this era of classical music. The music is rich is melody, harmony, and counterpoint; and the moods range from melancholy to glee. If you order the cd-r, I'd suggest copying and printing the program listed above so that you can insert it into the cd case when it arrives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile for Musical Content, January 7, 2003
This review is from: Welcome Home: A Collection of American Works for Clarinet and Piano (Audio CD)
This is a very interesting CD. I am a big fan of the Wilder Sonata (which is why i bought the CD), but after listening to all the songs, I've grown to really like the entire cd. The pieces all show heavy jazz influence. The clarinetist is technically good, but his tone lacks a little focus at times (it's not a big deal, just occasionally distracting). The pianist is exceptional! Despite the few problems, this CD is worth a look, especially is you like jazz.
