3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to Kaffe's usual standards
For the price, this isn't a quality book. The paper is not up to the standards in other books by Kaffe, although Welcome Home lists at the same or a similar price. There are some nice photos of the Minneapolis exhibition, some photos of Kaffe's house and working area, comparable to what we've seen in Glorious Interiors but again not up to the quality of that book,...

For the price, this isn't a quality book. The paper is not up to the standards in other books by Kaffe, although Welcome Home lists at the same or a similar price. There are some nice photos of the Minneapolis exhibition, some photos of Kaffe's house and working area, comparable to what we've seen in Glorious Interiors but again not up to the quality of that book, which was much more artfully and professionally photographed. As a knitter and a needleworker, I was disappointed to find no patterns in this book for either -- the patterns are for rag rugs or quilts. Part of the intent of the book is to showcase Fassett's new home fabrics, which aren't showcased as well as they can be if this were a catalog. There are a few finished needlepoint pieces -- three peculiar chairs with interesting tapestry inserts. A nice photo of a needlepoint roses vest -- without the charts, so you'd have to chart it yourself. I was looking forward to this book but was disappointed both in the quality of the book itself and in the lack of the traditional Fassett crafts -- the knitting and the tapestries. For those who like quilts, I'd recommend you get Glorious Patchwork rather than this book. It has many more quilts and a much better presentation.

This book features photographs of Kaffe Fassett's
home where he apparently does most of his work.
Beware, this book is not for the exponent of
monochromatic themes. Mr. Fassett lives with his
art and the colors in his house explode from the
pages of WELCOME HOME.

The artist says that "the house is like a constantly
changing set." In fact, his entire home appears to
be a working studio. On page eleven there are
pictures of the same room decorated in two distinct
and different styles, where even the fireplace mantle
has been changed.

From the papered or hand painted walls, to the quilts,
needlepoint rugs, chairs and pillows, the home abounds
in colors, textures and patterns. It's a treat to
just look at the photographs. If you feel so inclined,
the instructions are given for making some of the
quilts, rugs and pillows.

It's interesting to view the home environment of a
successful working artist and to see how different
objects are collected and used as sources of future
inspiration. I particularly enjoyed the pictures of
Mr. Fassett's blue and white pottery collection which
is also a favorite of mine. I also liked seeing his
bookcase, which from the point of view of a book
collector, looked well used and filled with cherished
books.

The section of the book called Museum Tour, shows
various exhibits of Mr. Fassett's work as a textile
artist. These photographs are from his show at the
Minneapolis Institute of Fine Art.

I highly recommend this beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Kaffe please volunteer to redecorate my home?, March 28, 2006
This review is from: Welcome Home: Kaffe Fassett (Hardcover)
I've always admired Kaffe Fassett so when I saw that this book was available at my local library I just had to borrow it. The colours do not disappoint and his home does not either. It is a continuous creative work in progress but it also looks very comfortable and lived in. I am not a crafty person but thanks to this book I went out and bought a latch hook, some hessian and found the bag of scrap material buried deep in a cupboard and now have a new easy hobby for in front of the TV that cost me less than $10 to get started with. His projects are achievable even for beginners and there is something for everyone. The beauty of this book is that it gives ideas and also an insight into how this fascinating man lives. It is not a specialist book but rather a broad overview of Fassett's interests.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUICY colors!, May 23, 2004
This review is from: Welcome Home: Kaffe Fassett (Hardcover)
If you're in a design or artistic rut and need something to "jump start" your creative visions again, this book is well worth owning.

Fassett challenges all the truisms of decor and many of the fundamental rules of art, and celebrates life and color with his fabulous visual concepts. Savoring each photo in this book... Well, it's like eating the best sherbet in the world, but for your creative spirit.

If you want your environment to enrich you and welcome visitors with extraordinary and JUICY colors (and color combinations), it's worth finding a copy of this book. I recently acquired a copy (after being "on the fence" about it for too long... what WAS I thinking...?) and wish that I'd snagged a copy sooner.

I honestly can't think of any kind of art or artist that wouldn't be very positively influenced by this book.

This review is from: Welcome Home: Kaffe Fassett (Hardcover)
Absolutely Beautiful. He is a master of color design and employs the essence of the earth with the soul. A keepsake that will be cherished forever.

This book is wonderfully written and his work is inspirational. Knowing the fabric choices and patterns are available is great comfort. His work in his home can also be yours.

4.0 out of 5 stars A personalized tour of Kaffee Fassett's Home, March 19, 2011
Kaffe Fassett is an internationally renown color and fiber artist, author and teacher. In this newly revised edition of "Welcome Home Kaffe Fassett" you will be taken on a tour of Kaffe's lovely home in London. The lush, full-colored photographs illustrate marvelous collections, one of a kind interior design and his colorful workspaces. You may have seen Kaffe Fassett textiles, artistic yarns and knitting patterns as well as his needlepoint kits for Ehrman Tapestries of London. He is also the leading fabric designer for Rowan Patchwork and Quilting. One common thread running through all his designs, in fact his entire life, is his love of bright, vivid colors, textures and patterns. One often wonders where he finds the inspiration for all the designs and projects. You need look no further than his own home and studio. I was so inspired by the groupings of collections, colors on the walls and furniture that I couldn't help but start thinking of a project of my own. Perhaps you are one of those quilters that need inspiration pieces all around them. If so you will want to read this book and bask in the beauty and colors found within its pages. Inspiration is every where and if you need a little nudge then you will also find 11 different projects in the book including quilts, pillows, rag rug patterns, and mosaics.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much discussion on how to decorate, May 25, 2011
83 of the 128 pages of this book are dedicated to the suggestions and displays of decorating a house. Four of the patterns are for rag rugs, four are for quilts and one is for a yo-yo pillow. The best part of this book was the overlapping front and back covers that can be used as bookmarks.

This book was a disappointment to me as I had hoped for more patterns and less "talk" about how to decorate. As everyone's tastes are different, seeing 83 pages of Mr. Fassett's color suggestions put me off. I knew his tastes varied greatly from mine but that doesn't mean I can't just use different fabrics with any of his quilt designs. As there were so few for the amount of pages in the book, I didn't enjoy this book.

With inset seams in one quilt, the four hooked rugs and the yo-yo pillow, that didn't leave me many quilts to create from this book. The patterns gave very few graphics so you needed to be sure you knew what you were reading to create them.

All in all, not a book I would suggestion to any of my quilting friends.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, March 7, 2011

This review is from: Welcome Home: Kaffe Fassett (Hardcover)
I am enthralled by all things Kaffe and always have to have his latest book. Somewhere along the line I missed this one. When I saw it, I ordered it without looking closely at the reviews. It is not the usual. I will probably put it in the least accessible part of my Kaffe shelf. It had nice photos but very little for the quilter part of my soul.
