Editorial Reviews

THIRTEEN OF EVERYTHING is a Texan Progressive rock quintet, formed at the end of the Nineties. After a first demo particularly well received by the critics, "Welcome, Humans" eventually sees the light of day on the Musea label. Let s go straight to the point: this is undoubtedly one of the best productions of the year 2005 ! This band can be compared without complex with ECHOLYN or IZZ. Beside the influence of the masters of the Seventies (Mainly GENESIS), the thirteen tracks are marked with a melodic easiness that sounds particularly American, a modern and powerful sound as well as an epic lyricism and virtuosity. It can be noticed by the way that seven of them form an epic suite of 26 minutes. On the whole, this is an hour and a quarter of symphonic Progressive rock of premium crop, copiously sprayed with Chapman Stick. Absolutely essential !

5.0 out of 5 stars American Progressive Rock To Get Excited About, June 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Welcome, Humans (Audio CD)
Okay, it's time to dust the cobwebs of ordinary American pop out of your ears and take a deep, imaginative adventure with Thirteen of Everything. I've been listening to this band's demo for three years now and it has never failed to inspire, never failed to drag me out of a doldrum, nor has it ever failed to induce my hope and dreams of a more interesting and future landscape for brilliant music such as you'll hear in Welcome, Humans.

Masterful arrangements, soaring guitar (yes, SOARING - reminiscent of Howe), clear, resonate structure, mindful melodies, and intriguing lyrics are in store for the listener. From the bittersweet Flying East to the inspiring Bird in Hand, Thirteen of Everything's music is an envelope of sound on a threshold of timelessness that sticks with you and becomes a companion, a soundtrack, and a long lost friend.

Congratulations guys. This is long-awaited, long overdue, and something very much worth waiting for!

This review is from: Welcome, Humans (Audio CD)
This Texas quintet's debut cd is one of the better releases in the symphonic prog genre that's come out over the past few years. With a musical style that's rooted firmly in the Genesis model, they still manage to update their sound with IZZ-like harmonies and a relaxed, Glass Hammer-like recording style. You really get your money's worth with 73 minutes of melodious music, including the 26-minute album-closing suite "Late for Dinner" ("Supper's Ready"?...). Even some Canterbury-ish humor sprinkled in here and there! I do like the production of most of this cd, but I feel like the drums were sometimes mixed rather flatly or subdued - could have used a bit more high-end and "punch" for my tastes. Aside from the music, you get some decent album art, and an extensive cd booklet reminiscent of some of the earlier Flower Kings cd booklets. Overall, a very enjoyable and worthy album!

I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 8.6/10; Performance = 9/10; Production = 8/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 8.8 ("4-1/2 stars")
