Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Next perfects the art of the hip-hop tinged, R&B ghetto hymn on Welcome II Nextasy, a slick and explicit soundtrack for all of life's freakier moments. Best known for the erection-on-the-dance-floor number, "Too Close," from their debut, Rated Next, T-Low, R.L., and Tweety create some ultra-nasty moments on tracks like "Jerk," a three-man salute to masturbation, "Shorty" ("I met her at a naughty show / I'm thinking about fellatio"), and "Let's Make a Movie" ("I'm a superstar / With super sperm"). What saves the album from descending into a testosterone-fueled trash heap, however, is the guys' wicked penchant for humor. It sounds like they're snickering over their own impure ways as much as the rest of us are. Who else in R&B is crooning about getting it on on their own? --Sylvia W. Chan

5.0 out of 5 stars Next: Take It To The Next Level, June 28, 2000
By Tony_Tone "Anthony Jamal Smith" (Washington, D.C., District of Columbia United States) - See all my reviews
R.L and his brothers Tweety, T-Low came on the scene in 97 with a stunning debut album that produced three number one hits: Too Close, Butta Love, I Still Love You.. Steamy ballads like Do You Think About Me, Taste So Good, Stop, Drop & Roll.. They are back with stunning second album Welcome II Nextasy this CD picks up where their last one did.. This time much of Welcome II Nextasy put more emphasis on the ballads they turn the heat up a notch higher this is evident on such ballads as Cybersex, Let's Make A Movie(My personal favorite on the whole cd), Call On Me.. When We Kiss .. Next also take on some pretty provocative issues such on the tune Beauty Queen an profound, uncompromising look on Women that will settle for less in life.. Listen to the lyrics very carefully.. It is truly a profound song.. Welcome II Nextasy also has it shares of uptempo tunes such as the current single Wifey that is sure to cause a stir on the dancefloor like it's predecessor Too Close did a couple years ago.. What U Want ( Featuring Beanie Siegel).. The Cd does have a couple of missteps this take place on tunes Jerk, Banned From TV but after you get past these tunes you can just let it play.. Other noteworthy songs My Everything, Splash ..

This is an excellent CD it belongs in everyone's collection pick it up you will not be disappointed !

3.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Follow Up Album, But Could Have Been Better, June 25, 2000
By "rhydawg" (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
Next (R.L., T-Low, and Tweety) debuted with the multi-platinum album Rated Next and the hit single "Too Close," Billboard's No. 1 song of 1998. Next is back at it again with the cleverly titled album Welcome II Nextasy. This album is laced with a nice mix variety of tempos and subjects. The underlying purpose of this album seems to deliver smooth, romantic vocals for the ladies; however, this group also wants to please the guys with songs that appear to be vulgar towards women. I was surprised when I heard them screaming profanity on "Beauty Queen" and "Banned From TV." Otherwise, Next holds the album down well with out the presences of several guests and the appearance made by Rockafella Records superstar Beanie Siegel is welcomed. The best love ballads on the album are "My Everything," "Call On Me" (my favorite song) and the hit single, "Wifey." All of these songs are well done and are not monotonous in nature. The song entitled "Jerk" is a song in which the group attempts to rap and it is actually done quite nicely. This song was somewhat disturbing because of the topic, but it was a nice change in tempo. "Cybersex" was an unusual song because its lyrics dealt with computer parts described as a woman. This seemed quite strange and I was not feeling this song; however, the lyrics were quite clever and must be heard. The other songs on the album were not really worth mentioning, "Splash" was quite annoying with the special FX in the background. Overall, Next is on target with this album. However, Next needs to choose whether to please the men or the women because it is too hard to please both.

3.0 out of 5 stars Satisfactory, January 22, 2004
By koolrico (New York, U.S.) - See all my reviews
It's a good second effort. It's not spectaclar but good. The songs are good but the vocals really make this album worth having. This album is not bad just average. This is the last time I buy an album without listening to samples of the songs first. The best song come on the second half of the album. Here is my rating for each track.
1. Welcome II Nextasy(Intro) 4/5.
2. What U Want feat. Beanie Sigel 5/5 (A hot&slick Hip-Hop song.)
3. Wifey (first single) 3/5 (Okay.)
4. Cybersex 5/5 (Freaky in a good way.)
5. Beauty Queen (second single) 4/5
6. When We Kiss 3/5 (A nice love song.)
7. Jerk feat. 50 Cent (also a single) 4/5
8. Call On Me 3/5 (Good.)
9. Shorty 4/5 (Basic Hip-Hip flavoured R&B song.)
10. Minnesnowta(Interlude) 5/5
11. Let's Make a Movie 5/5 (Hot!)
12. My Everything 5/5 (Romantic and Sensual Quiet Storm ballad.)
13. Splash 4/5 (No Comment. The title is self-explanatory.)
14. Banned From TV 6/5 (The second best song on the album.)
15. Oh No No Feat. Red Rat and Renee Neufville from the group.Zhane 7/5 (The hottest song on the entire album!)
16. Hidden Track (The casette version of this album I have has this hidden track that I think is titled "The Freak in Me." It's a really good slow-jam. 5/5. There are some really hot songs on this album buried by some bland filler. Well, I hope this review is helpful to you.
