What brief attempt at parody was like a cheap 1930s slapstick.

They were bored out of their minds when they made this film or just plain stupid and lazy as hell.

An advertising office goes on a remote team building retreat lead by Storm (Jean-Claude Van Damme). Phil (Rob Huebel) is the office bully who stole an idea from mild mannered Chris (Adam Brody). Chris was also a scout who knows his craft. Once the team gets to the island jungle, the pilot is found dead and a tiger kills Storm. The film derives its basic plot from "Lord of the Flies" as Phil and Chris form competing tribes.

Brenda (Kristen Schaal) was the funniest of the lot, or perhaps more aptly, the only comedian in this comedy. The rest had trouble delivering stale lines for the near parody based on a book we read in the seventh grade.

Jean-Claude Van Damme delivers this funny line: "We will have to use our heads and our brains." Yawn.

In the beginning of the film Chris gets blamed for the wrong doings of others. This was overdone to the point the audience could see it coming for miles, so when it happened, it wasn't funny.

The film humor seemed to be geared for kids, but the F-bombs, orgy, and nude scene might stear parents away. It needs to be cut to be marketed as PG-13 to reach its target audience

    Okay as a cheap rental.

Always get a "kick" out of Van Damme but even the few laughs he generated were not anywhere close to what this mind-numbingly awful flick needed. They went for that whole "Lord of the Flies" parody and it came off more annoying than funny. If you have an interest to get a few raunchy laughs out of a jungle adventure gone wrong go pick up copy of Ben Stiller's "Tropic Thunder" film.

This movie is nothing more than it appears to be. A pansy knockoff of "Lord of the Flies." We know the formula and they do it to a tee. The only redeeming social value is Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Dysfunctional office workers are sent for a two day team building course on a remote jungle island. There they become stranded. Their real personalities emerge. Can they survive as a team or is it the Lord of the flies all over again?

We get to pick our favorite characters while kibitzing a bit as we watch them having to deal with nature.

Be prepaid for a bit of potty mouth and slapstick.

I really wanted to like this, I really did, the promise was there but the really trite characters just got on my nerves. Adam Brody's immediate boss who steals his ideas and treats him like dog doo, really grates on me and the Adam Brody character allowing it. Just didn't care at all.

Ok, I have to confess up front that I scoffed at the idea of Jean-Claude Van Damme doing comedy. I mean, let’s face it: action stars can usually get away with one-liners in their films, but straight-on comedy? That’s almost unheard of. Thankfully, my misgivings were unfounded. WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is a hilarious, smartly written romp that will force you to respect Van Damme for more than just butt-kicking!

The premise of this film is initially what drew me to watch it. I love the idea of a bunch of a city-raised office drones getting stranded on an island. There are SO MANY things you can do with that idea, and director Rob Meltzer does not disappoint. He fleshes out a great story with funny characters and insane situations.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is shot well, and the production value appears high. The cast is superb, with Adam Brody playing the lead as Chris, a mousy office geek who wants to get ahead but has no assertiveness. Chris’s nemesis is Phil, portrayed by the ever-talented Rob Huebel. Both actors do an excellent job with their roles, as do the rest of their supporting cast. Van Damme only has a small part in the film, but he delivers his lines with true zest and good timing. The result is a comedic ensemble that would rival Saturday Night Live’s best of any year.

What really wins me over with WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is the story that plays out on the island. Part LOST, part LORD OF THE FLIES, the insanity reaches mountain-peak highs once a hallucinogenic herb is introduced to the survivors. I found myself laughing and cringing at the same time due to the craziness that ensues. I would bet you’ve never seen anything like this before.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is a major win for me, and I highly recommend giving it a look if you’re looking for zany comedy. The film is available now in a variety of formats.

Van damme is really funny. He's great at making fun of himself plus surprisingly good comic timing. Great ensemble cast!

It's a fantastic comedy. Some of the things in the plot weren't new, but the movie is made in a smart, very funny and correct way. I loved actors, i loved the plot itself and I loved pretty much everything about it. It wasn't too obvious as for how the movie was going to end and I was questioning myself quite a few times. I really don't understand how the movie can have 3 stars rating in general. It should be at least 4. Yes, some of the effects could be done in a better way, but that's what makes this movie much like old beloved comedies. It's not a movie that you should miss. Watch it. I dare you! Keep your mind open and have a good laugh.
