Book Description

3 and upJohn Deere (Running Press Kids Paperback)
Kids know and love John Deere construction and farm machines, and the John Deere name means power and quality in everything from tractors and dozers to gators and more. And the Deere characters Johnny Tractor, Danny Dozer, Barney Backhoe, Corey Combine, and Allie Gator are also familiar to children from the successful line of John Deere toddler toys. Now kids can meet these friendly machines, look under the hood to see how they work, and learn about all the different things they can do, in our competitively priced giant lift-the-flap books featuring deluxe paper-over-board covers and a bonus spread. Kids will delight in looking under the flaps to see Johnny Tractor (J.T.) and his friends Allie Gator and Corey Combine, who live, work, and play at Merriweather Farm. Follow their adventures as they prepare the soil for sowing, plant the fields and vegetable garden, take care of the farm, and bring the harvest to market!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great kids book, June 22, 2009
This is fun book for kids and the best of the "Merriweather Farm" series. The build quality is first rate. I have not found a lift the flap book that has survived as well as this one. The art work is great for kids - it's bright, colorful, and the tractors all look very friendly.

If this series has a drawback it would be the writing which at best is "okay" and at worst is annoying. Of all the John Deere kids books this is the one I prefer reading: while it's not exactly engaging for an adult it's slightly lyrical and the text describes the pictures well. The joy my son get's out of it far out ways the flaws. And let me be clear on that point: my son (age 3) absolutely loves this book. Nine times out of ten this is on his bed time story list. He's committed it to memory and "reads" it me on occasion. Along the way he's actually learned to read a few words. I can't ask for much more than that.

A few people have complained that this is blatant product placement. So it is. If as an adult he's biased in favor of buying a combine from John Deere I'll know why.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Deere Lift the Flap Book Merriweather Farm, November 27, 2005
By
This review is from: Welcome to Merriweather Farm (John Deere Lift-the-Flap Books) (Hardcover)
I love the book. It is impossible to find flap books for little boys. This is a good one with not too many words per page. The flaps are fun and the pictures are good. It is one of his favorites.

4.0 out of 5 stars still loves it a year later..., June 8, 2006
This review is from: Welcome to Merriweather Farm (John Deere Lift-the-Flap Books) (Hardcover)
This is one of the few books my son still loves after reading for almost a year. I first showed it to my child when he was about 6 months and he liked it right away, now he's 18 months and he likes it even better whereas many other books have fallen to the wayside. The drawings are enjoyable to both the infant and toddler group. When he was young we focused on the animals and their noises, now we are focusing on the tractors and engines, and explaining where food comes from etc. It's a great book.
