5.0 out of 5 stars Which one do I sew first?
As a beginning applique quilter with intermediate sewing skills, getting this book is like being a kid in a candy store! I don't know which little house to make first!

Much of the applique is very teeny-tiny (e.g. the reindeer antlers, window panes). However, the book gives tips on simplifying these hard parts (e.g. using twigs or ultrasuede for the reindeer antlers)...

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY DISPLEASED WITH THIS PURCHASE
I AM VERY VERY DISPLEASED WITH THIS PURCHASE AS I HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT YET. I WOULD BE ABLE TO COMPLETE A GREAT REVIEW HOPEFULLY IF I HAD ACTUALLY RECEIVED IT AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE THIS PATTERN.

As a beginning applique quilter with intermediate sewing skills, getting this book is like being a kid in a candy store! I don't know which little house to make first!

Much of the applique is very teeny-tiny (e.g. the reindeer antlers, window panes). However, the book gives tips on simplifying these hard parts (e.g. using twigs or ultrasuede for the reindeer antlers). Actually, the applique is easier than it looks, and the results are GREAT! It really isn't that much harder to 'cut as you go' (for the thin spirals). I'm learning a lot of applique techniques by working on this quilt.

The book itself is simply a black and white compilation of the patterns needed to complete the quilt on the front cover.

I saw this quilt completely finished at a quilt show and it is absolutely breath-taking. I spent half an hour just standing there and looking at all the detail of the quilt. It snagged each person who walked by and got a lot of attention! If you are looking for a project that will be greatly admired, this certainly is worth tackling.

I never thought I would try applique, but this book, with it's clear instruction and beautiful patterns inspired me to try. I just completed my first project. I love the photos they give of completely finished blocks, with ideas for embellishment. Truly inspiring. I am hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars so cute!, August 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to the North Pole: Santa's Village in Applique (Paperback)
This is a beautiful book! The applique is so charming. I can't wait to make this quilt for myself! The only downside is that you need so many different fabrics to make this quilt as effective as theirs - oh well, more fabric shopping! This was the first Piece O'Cake book I ever bought, after trying one of their block of the month patterns and I have loved it so much that I've bought all their books since. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to hand applique and even to maching appliquers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical, fun applique, December 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to the North Pole: Santa's Village in Applique (Paperback)
This is a great book! It has lots of detailed information on how to successfully applique and suggestions for colour use. In addition to the quilt on the front cover, instructions are also given for smaller variations. The applique images in the quilts are so cute and whimsical, with buildings named "Elves' Bunkhouse", "Delilah's Doll Shoppe", "Reindeer Barn", etc. Another great book from Piece O'Cake Designs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the North Pole, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Welcome to the North Pole: Santa's Village in Applique (Paperback)
This is a beautiful book. The instructions are easy to follow and the patterns are full size. It is nice that you do not have to make a hugh project all at once. The project is laid out in sections to make it easy to do small wall hangings. These ladies are very talented and the pieces of Santa's village are precious. I am so glad I bought this book.

I can't wait to make this quilt. I saw one made up at a quilt show or something very similar and couldn't wait to find the pattern. It is just so clever and fun. My quilt group is planning on making it as a block of the month. I am so happy I bought this book, it makes me smile every time I look through it.
Sincerely, LPotts

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the North Pole, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Welcome to the North Pole: Santa's Village in Applique (Paperback)
I found this to be a charming project. Very versatile for making one block or many. Also, the possibilities were endless for decorating and using materials, buttons etc on hand. Instructions were clear and it could be easy (iron on ) or more experienced (hand appliqued completely.) I will be making several for next year. (Not enough time for this year)!

I recently purchased this book. The quilt is quite whimsical. I am thinking about making it now, even though Christmas was just last month. The instrustions look easy enough. The applique pieces are small for windows, doors, ect... A great way to use all those tiny pieces we sewers cannot throw away.
