5.0 out of 5 stars overall, a very impressive full-length debut album, April 21, 2005
This review is from: Welcome the Problem (Audio CD)
Coming from Elgin, Illinois, this group has quickly become one of my very favorite bands to listen to. As the closest possible comparison, I'd say that their sound is an extension of American Football's, yet in a direction of upbeat indie-rock. In fact, there are a great number of similarities between this band and American Football: very complex guitars woven together seamlessly, over similarly astonishing drumming, and also including a trumpet played in very reasonable and appropriate ways by one of the guitarists. There is nothing incredibly outlandish about this band or album in particular, yet they are doing things that aren't commonly done. The music is a very straight-forward, no nonsense performance, yet the content is downright unpredictable. Unlike American Football, however, the bass is not simply used as a background instrument to support the rest of the music. Instead, the bass plays a complementary role to the rest of the music while not sacrificing its individuality in playing repetitive parts.

Another notable aspect of this album is that throughout the whole thing there is not a single distorted guitar, which in this case is another point of testimony as to the sheer talent of this group. Overall, this is definitely one of the most promising new bands that I have heard in a long time. In all honesty, I kind of wish that there were more bands as original and talented as this one is. Five stars.
