This review is from: Welcome to Viper City (Audio CD)
The only reason I took a look at this CD in the discount bin of the store was because it was reduced price and it was on Rise Records. I had previously heard another band on Rise called A Different Breed Of Killer and was impressed. So why not look further into Recon ? It's a good thing I did because I discovered a quality, heavy hardcore band.
Welcome To Viper City creeps and slams along at a bulldozing pace. "Fast" is not a word that describes this disc, but "punishing" does. The further along I got into this album, the more I thought it sounded like another extremely heavy hardcore band, Liferuiner. In fact, I am amazed at how similar they do sound to Liferuiner. One difference between the 2 bands is that Recon's song titles are not as witty as Liferuiner's.
So here we have a band that definitely did not model themselves after Chain Of Strength, Cause For Alarm, or even Slapshot. These guys are not going after the youth crew sound. Their sound leans more towards the tough guy side of things and may even please some deathcore fans and metal heads.
For fans of: Built Upon Frustration, No Retreat, Liferuiner.
