We purchased this book and the companion teacher's guide as an introduction to world geography for Middle/Junior High School age home-schooled students. The subject matter has proven appropriate for this age level, though it does at times descend into a slightly silly conversational style more appropriate to elementary school ages. There also seems to be an excess of exclamation marks, but it is possible that Brewer Runkle is just that excited about Geography!

Overall, the textbook is well organized with clear photographs and graphs, and key vocabulary words and ideas set apart in sidebars. Our students enjoyed the hands-on activities and fun facts inserts scattered throughout. Each lesson ends with a vocabulary list and review questions, which include questions from current and previous lessons; a nice touch for comprehensive test preparation.

Unfortunately, we found numerous errors and conflicts between the textbook and teacher's guide; We prepared handouts from the latter, but our students frequently found terms, definitions and questions present in the book that were missing from the teacher's guide, and vice versa. There were some issues with mis-numbering as well, and inconsistent formatting was used in the test blanks. While admittedly small issues, a good editing process would have eliminated them. Hopefully future editions will be corrected.
