5.0 out of 5 stars THESE KIDS ROCK!
I heard this CD blasting from my teenage son's room the other day. I'm not a punk rock fan, but Orange immediately caught my ear. Their music sounds fresh and their songs are fantastic and actually musical (am I showing my age?). Most of all, ORANGE KICKS ASS! I was blown away when I found out the band members are 16 and 17 years old. You'd never know--they sound like...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hellcan't
I've listened to their album, and I've seen them live, and everything about this band feels so contrived. This is the first band I have found on Hellcat that I have not instantly liked. I'll call it focus-group punk. If you're looking for music with a bit of integrity or soul, I'd suggest something else. If you're looking for an indie label answer to Good Charlotte, then...

Their music sounds fresh and their songs are fantastic and actually musical (am I showing my age?). Most of all, ORANGE KICKS ASS! I was blown away when I found out the band members are 16 and 17 years old. You'd never know--they sound like seasoned pros. I was a professional rock and studio musician for 20 years and I cannot believe how well these kids play. I predict they'll be big. Finally, there's some music my kid and I can agree on.

4.0 out of 5 stars And they thought punk was dead...., September 19, 2005
This review is from: Welcome to the World of...Orange (Audio CD)
Orange is a group of 16 and 17 year olds who mix todays punk and the original style of punk. They're outstanding. If you buy only one album this year, buy this one, you'll love it. Forgive and Forget" is an outstanding song, which intoduced me to Orange. Other songs I reccomend on this album are No Rest For The Weekend and Hollywood. This band will be huge real soon, so you just watch out!

This review is from: Welcome to the World of...Orange (Audio CD)
I love this CD! I'm so glad I bought it. Orange are a group of teenagers who really know their music.
I would recommend it to any rock n' roll fan. "Welcome to the World of Orange" is lively and fun, the song "Orange" makes me smile every time I listen to it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Welcome To The World Of Terrible Music, February 5, 2008
By
This review is from: Welcome to the World of...Orange (Audio CD)
This was the first album I had bought off of amazon, and i was pretty psyched when it arrived. But 5 minutes into the album I knew I had made a mistake. Orange is a bunch of make-up-wearing wannabe punks, with fake british accents. Apparently they didn't get the memo that said that songs should RHYME. Perhaps as they mature as a band, and as people, they will make a good album; but this wasn't it. The guitar and other instrumental parts are fine for a new band, but just as you think that maybe this could be a good song, they spout some terrible lyrics with no rythm. I want my money back and you will too if you buy this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars High school kids playing '77 punk?, June 2, 2006
By
Destroy Boy (www.ohboydestroy.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Welcome to the World of...Orange (Audio CD)
Orange is a lot like the countless punk rock bands that sprout up like weeds in any high school only they're a ton better than any I remember back in the day. Stylistically it's rooted in '77 style punk, complete with faux cockney accent vocals and simple, straight forward punk anthems but there are a few modern touches that push it above and beyond just faithful mimicry of the punk forefathers. Opting for a style of punk that emerged before these kids were even born seems kind of ironic but their exceptional songwriting and musical ability quickly squelches any notion that this isn't what they were born to play.

While this debut is chock full of well crafted punk tunes overflowing with strong sing along choruses, it should be noted these guys are not kiddy versions of U.S. Bombs or The Stitches. Instead they opt for a more pop centric approach that has more in common with Green Day than The Clash. But even that comparison doesn't really do their sound justice. What really sets them apart from the pack is the tasteful lead guitar work. The songs are loaded with catchy leads that perfectly accent the songs without coming across like useless wanking. Cuts like the opening "Hollywood" and "Cool Mexicans" are turned from pretty good songs to ones that are stuck in your head for days by the use of hooky as hell lead work. This adds a big melodic element to their sound that sets them apart from some of their arguably less talented predecessors and more literal minded contemporaries.

The other aspect of their music I enjoyed was their tendency to go with more of a wall of sound/droning approach. The guitars/drums/bass are mixed together so that nothing stands out apart from anything else as opposed to say a Rancid where everything is distinct and separate. This style, coupled with the even tone of vocal delivery and tons of backing vocal harmonies, lulls you into the groove of the songs where the stylish lead guitar work takes over to hammer it home. Of course this means the songs lack an aggressive edge and lean more heavily towards the pop side of the spectrum but it never gets too sugary.

The only department they don't deliver in is the lyrics. The subject matter is your typical high school fare about girls, sticking it to the man, school is lame etc. I guess I can look past it as at that age that's probably all I cared about too but it does cause a few eye rolls here and there from us "adults".

Orange has managed to deliver a pretty accomplished debut by anyone's standards. That they are high school kids makes it all the more amazing. If they stay on course they should have a few great albums out before most people have a chance to write even one good album.

5.0 out of 5 stars COOL KIDS, September 1, 2005
This review is from: Welcome to the World of...Orange (Audio CD)
I saw these punks at the Galaxy theatre of Orange Co. for the first time as they opened up for the legedary CADILLAC TRAMPS. Once I heard the noise coming from the stacks and the cracking of the skins, I knew I had to buy this cd. Unfortunatly the cd hadn't come out yet so I waited a few months as I got my fix from they're web page that only plays 3 songs, Cool Mexicans, Weekend, and Hollywood. I would definitly recommend this cd to any minor who needs inspiration.
