5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, straightforward and "right on the money" !
I am offering my review "after" having cosmetic surgery. Reading Helen's book helped me interview 5 doctors prior to making my cosmetic surgery decision. Having never considered cosmetic surgery, I would not have known the best questions to ask, what to look for in a doctor, his nurses, his education, training, office etc. had it not been for Helen's book...

1.0 out of 5 stars OK, BUT THERE ARE MUCH BETTER BOOKS
I was disappointed by this book. There are much better books available.... "The Hollywood Facelift" or "The Youth Corridor" or "Nips and Tucks" are all much better than this book.

I am offering my review "after" having cosmetic surgery. Reading Helen's book helped me interview 5 doctors prior to making my cosmetic surgery decision. Having never considered cosmetic surgery, I would not have known the best questions to ask, what to look for in a doctor, his nurses, his education, training, office etc. had it not been for Helen's book! Helen's book offers the most realistic before, during and after information...including pictures! By applying her advice, I selected a surgeon and had surgery that I am unbelievably happy with! I achieved what I wanted and more...and continue to get compliments regularly on how great I look...but no one can quite figure out what is different...which is exactly what I wanted! I have had several friends select my plastic surgeon and schedule surgery after seeing my results and reading Helen's book! The most ironic part of all...is that I gave the book to my plastic surgeon! And now he gives it to patients and recommends it! If you're thinking of plastic surgery...of any kind...reading this book first is a MUST!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pick up this book before your surgeon picks up the scalpel., January 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Fashion magazines make cosmetic surgery seem no more serious than buying a new lipstick. But if you are seriously considering cosmetic surgery, you need honest information and advice. Writing in a frank and friendly manner, the author describes her experiences preparing for, undergoing, and recovering from her face lift. She also tells you what to expect if you decide to have cosmetic surgery, every step of the way, from finding the right surgeon and getting through the first few days post-op to how to tell (or not tell) friends and co-workers what you've done. I thought I might be ready for "a little work," and reading this book helped me make up my mind. I'm now following Helen's advice to get ready for my surgery --- scheduled for my birthday next month!

5.0 out of 5 stars A DEFINATIVE resource for ANYONE considering a Facelift, July 13, 1998
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Welcome to Your Facelift : What to Expect Before, During, and After by Hellen Bransford, is to date, the definative resource for ANYONE cosidering a facelift. This small tome told me things that my own plastic surgeon didn't have a clue about. Ms. Bransford told the truth, the whole truth, and NOTHING but the truth about facelifts. I hope her book on 2nd facelifts is published before I go under the knife, again! It's interesting to note that her book is being included in their "patient package" by some of the top plastic surgeons in the US. If you're thinking about "turning back the clock" start your research with this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but, February 12, 2007

Helen does a wonderful job of preparing you for surgery. She has good information, related in a conversational style. There are even a few pictures to prepare the reader for what you will look like immediately after surgery. But personally, I wish she had been more thorough in describing what to expect after surgery. Her "after" pictures stopped at day six. I would have liked to see what to expect on week 2 and 3. Those weeks are handled with a brief paragraph each. With so much attention to detail leading up to surgery, I would have expected just as much detail afterwards. Otherwise, good book and worthwhile reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a realistic look into facelifts, and has great tips!, November 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Ms Bransford has done an excellent job putting together a timeline of her facelift, from why she wanted one and what steps she took, all the way to full recovery. I especially loved the tips, which made my facelift so much easier. This is an honest, open and fun book that does a lot to deal with any fears about facelifts that someone has. A real approach, with real information and feelings. I have recommended it very highly to all of my "aging" friends, and I will continue to do so!

1.0 out of 5 stars Empty-headed and narcissistic, November 27, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Truly embarrassing, unintentional laughs. Spoiled rich girl tries to write about something she really cares about - herself and her face. What do you expect from that "literary" crowd - McInerney, Ellis, Tartt... Awful! But a classic of its kind.

4.0 out of 5 stars a very good behind the scenes look at cosmetic surgery., April 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
As a professional in the Cosmetic Surgery industry I felt this book was an accurate portrayal of what a patient goes through before, during and after surgery. This book is written in layman's terms and is a light, enjoyable read with enough depth to enable a consumer to make an informed decision.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mostly puff piece - some good tips in last half of book., October 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Written like an adolescent's homework, this book is totally unprofressional and superficial to the subject. The author suggests checking out a surgeon's office wallpaper, objets d'art and magazines to evaluate "who he is". Tips on homeopathic approach to presurgery care is noteworthy - otherwise a disappointing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, clever, empathetic and full of energy, September 3, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Welcome to Your Facelift (Hardcover)
Helen Bransford shows she has brains AND beauty in her frank examination of why plastic surgery is enjoying such popularity, what to expect if it happens to you and how she endured the process. Her little book is girlfriend-friendly and it posesses just enough clinical information to move the uninitiated-but-interested toward the I'm-ready-for-a-consultation stage. Don't read it unless you take the craft (and your looks) seriously
