Book Description

November 1992
Several advances in welding have occurred since this book was first published - among them a variety of new processes, fuels, equipment, supplies, and techniques designed to make welding safer and easier. All of these developments have been incorporated into this second edition of "The Welder's Bible" - aimed at beginners and experienced welders. Don Geary tells novices how to begin working productively with welding equipment. He describes how to identify and use various metals, select tools and gases, put together a welding toolkit, work with fluxes and solder, employ special brazing techniques - even how to assemble a fully functional home workshop. Although he devotes an entire chapter to safety, Geary stresses it throughout the book, outlining all the hazards of welding and the precautions welders should take.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lame, July 7, 1999

This review is from: The Welder's Bible (Paperback)
Only buy this book for very basic information about oxy-acetylene welding. There's little or no info about MIG/TIG and arc welding.

1.0 out of 5 stars skip this one, July 22, 2005
This review is from: The Welder's Bible (Paperback)
As an experienced welder, I found this book disturbing, due to inaccuracies. I am certain Mr. Geary meant well, and did his best to present the subject matter. That said, if you look at his other titles you will find that he writes on a wide variety of subjects. He is a professional writer, not a welding professional. Welding safety is paramount, taking precedent over skill acquisition, and I would NOT trust my learning to this book. There are far better books out there. Start with the literature offered by the welding manufacturers, and go next to authors who are also professionals in the field. Nothing can take the place of qualified live instruction-see your local community college or high school extension classes, and if you must learn from a book, research the author and publisher first, don't rely on a single book, and establish a relationship with a welding supply house. Sears,(and similiar general suppliers) where Mr.Geary acknowledged for the equipment in many of his illustrations, is a poor choice of supplies as they can answer few questions, and may even, as Mr. Geary has done, offer inaccurate advice.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as the welder's handbook, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Welder's Bible (Paperback)
good detail on oxyacetylene but very sketchy on arc/mig/tig. not enough charts/graphs. a better resource is "the welder's handbook" by richard finch (also 4.00 cheaper).
